I just got a used 2014 Prius C One and just noticed there is no light in the back when you open the hatch. Not the light isn't coming on, there is no light at all back there. Anyone know a good work around for this (other than sticking on a touch light)?

I was considering wiring something to the front dome light, but wanted to see if anyone had tips before I try.

i would stick a couple battery operated led puck lights inside the lower hatch door.

Is there no light because no power to the bulb back there? Or no light because the bulb is just wimpy?
If you have power back there, you can stick a generic led strip on the left and right side, and power them with your rear trunk power. I'd recommend sticking the led strip on the underside of your trunk cover, but I'm not sure the C1 has one back there.

No light as in there's no actual light outlet or anything back there.

I tried using a stick on touch light, but I live in Texas and the 100°+ weather isn't cooperating with it. I have to reattach it at least twice a day.

One guy on the forums mentioned he ran some lines from the dome lights to the back, by routing them through the roof liner. Could be an option to power a light and make it shine straight down. If you don't have that trunk cover, it's in an optimal position.
If had to route power back there again that's the route I'd take. I went an awkward way by tapping the dome light, running along the top windshield to the A pillar, down to the foot well, along the base to the backseat, then up the C pillars, and to the top rear roof cover.

Odd. I know my C has a trunk light in the rear. Is there a cut out for it so you can add it?

That's not what I mean. No c's have a light on the roof in the rear. BUT there may be a light in the hatch area on the left side in the rear panel.

Nope. My 2014 Prius C1 doesn't have anything either. Only option is to get a battery powered LED strip or run a tapped line from the map light up front to the rear via the headliner....either way, Toyota really jipped C1 owners!!!

I have a 2016 C 2 and the cargo light isn't on the ceiling, its down on the driver's side, below where the tonnou cover sits. Funny they wouldn't have that on the 1, seems like every car comes with a cargo light.

TBH it's so small and low that it only helps in complete darkness. And if there's nothing sitting in front of it.

    G'day,
Yes, the light in the boot/trunk is normal for this size car (it was this way in the Echo I had before the Prius c, and is in the Yaris we also still have).
That's to say, not very illuminating and located in a not totally convenient place.

I'm pondering replacing the filament globe with a brighter LED. Shifting the fitting is probably too much trouble while the car is still under warranty
Maybe also an LED for the interior roof light.

The map-lights by the mirror are bright enough even though they're of the older type as far as I can tell.

I'd hope the same LED globes will fit the Prius c and our 2006 Yaris fittings so it'd be a job-lot job.
It'll be winter here soon (in a couple of months) so that may be the incentive to go looking for LED lights.

Yeah the C1 is really an entry level model with no cargo light, full fold rear seat (as opposed to split-folding) and integrated front headrests (as opposed to height adjustable ones).

There's a post out there about adding the trunk/cargo light to a C1. The wiring is there. Just need to buy a trunk light, cut a hole in the lining for it and wire it up.

    Here it is...

Hatchback light in C1 | PriusChat

I did it. Worked fine. Just be careful not to short it out as I recall. The connection goes right to the ECU, so there's no going back short of a new ECU (IIRC).

I did electronics installs for around 5 years (2 way radio, emergency vehicles, etc) and three rules will save you every time:
    1. Disconnect the 12v battery before you start
    2. Make sure there's an inline fuse for anything aftermarket (in an accessible place)
    3. Good ground points matter (if you can find a manufacturer's ground post, that's the best)

Lowes has battery motion denser led lights. Adjustable light to aim where needed. I put mine on hatchback. When hatch closed it will not see motion. And its light denser keeps it off in daylight. I love these little light and put them places such as front door. Have them in door of motor Home. Less than $10.
