2013 Toyota Avalon gets the Camry's V-6, Hybrid engines

    wow! we we're going to trade our 08 hycam for a '12, but after seeing this news, might have to wait and take a look at the new hylon!

    Reads like Toyota is following Nissan's approach: the altima and Maxima are basically the same size and the V6 altima is essentially the same as a maxima regarding its powertrain. I wouldn't have thought there were room for both, but Nissan has proven there is so toyota maybe will, too.

    It starts at $33.2k. The limited, with Smart Key is $36.4k. Add in the hybrid premium and you're getting to $40k.

    $40k's Volt and loaded PiP territory. Just saying. ;)

    the hycam xle is 33k so 40 depending on how it matches up, how much larger, quieter, smoother and more comfortably equipped it is remains to be seen. this is my wifes car and she loves her camry. a volt or pip just ain't gonna work for her. plus, when we head for florida in the winter, a cruiser is really nice to have at our age.:whistle:

    Why would the hybrid avalon be more than the V6? The Camry XLE V6 starts at $30,115 while the Camry Hybrid XLE starts at $27,500. Judging by that, Toyota should be able to offer the hybrid as a no cost option on the Avalon assuming that the equipment is the same.

    It was only a matter of time. 1 mpg loss with a larger vehicle (I think no loss if you look at the combined numbers of the Avalon and Camry XLE) is a pretty good trade off.

    Note that the new ES350/300h is based on the Avalon and not the Camry any more.

    Ok, I'll revise that statement lol. It's based on the *stretched* Camry platform that the Avalon is using instead of the Camry. How's that?

    The Avalon has always been the upscale 'bridge' between the Toyota line and the Lexus line.

    In essence the Camry XLE, the Avalon and the Lexus ES are all the same vehicle with slightly different styling. By having the Avalon begin at $33000 and range up to $38000 Lexus then can sell it's 'Camry' beginning at $38000 and going up to $45000.

    Pretty slick marketing when you can sell three variations of the same vehicle beginning at $22000 and ending at $45000.

    Naming....

    When the Camry hybrid first came out - way back when - it was abbreviated to the 'TCH' . Toyota Camry Hybrid

    This followed the FEH, the HCH, the HAH, the THH and then the FFH. Then Nissan added the NAH and Hyundai the HSH. Now Toyota adds the TAH. That'll be my designation whenever I'm discussing it.

    well add Highlander and RX450h into the mix, it is between $20k and $65k then...

    Otherwise, their midsize platform is basis for 10-15 different cars at least. But Avalon is completely different car than Camry, inside and out so I doubt anyone will ever confuse the two.
