Does anyone know if 2013 will provide more than a minor refresh? My local dealer says there are no major changes in 2013 for the non-plugin hybrid. I'm debating whether to hold out until 2013. Thx!!

10 & 11 were the same with a refresh for 12. I'm sure that 13 will be the same with no chance of any more changes until 14 at the earliest. Just buy a 12 if you are ready. :D

If they follow the schedule of the 2nd gen Prius, there won't be a change until calendar year 2015 for model year 2016 ...

The 2nd gen Prius came out in 2004, 2005 was the same, then they did a minor refresh for 2006 with different taillights and I think the first availability of leather seats...

but 2006 thru 2009 were virtually the same except for some options. I don't think we'll see a '4th generation' liftback Prius at least until 2014 for model year 2015, but I'll bet it will be revealed Jan 2015 for release in mid 2015, a 2016 Prius.

I'm new to the forum. I also have questions about upcoming changes in the Prius, particularly combination electric and hybrid. Is there any indication that the mileage for the electric component will increase in the future. We own a 2010 Prius that my wife drives. I am going to buy another one for me in the next couple of years and need to decide whether to just get another hybrid, or go with the combination version.
    Any thoughts out there?

2009 was the best time to get the Gen III and now is the best time to get the any of the Prius models out there if you need a car within the next couple of years.

The refresh from the '10s/'11s and the '12s is very minimal IMO. Not enough to warrant a wait. However if you want a complete overhaul of the model, then that's another story.

Nope. They might do a slight change to an option, but the changes will be so minor you'd hardly notice.

The mid cycle refesh was for 2012. 2006 model was a 'refresh' for the 2nd gen and there were some changes leading up to 2009, but not much.

The big change should be for model year 2016. IOW, 3 years from today a 4th generation liftback should be revealed. But Toyota might bring it a year early. never know.

They will keep the regular prius though. Would be crazy not to. Strong seller.

It sure sounds like you are asking about the Prius plug-in since you mention 'will electric component increase in the future'...

by that I think you mean 'will the EV range increase on the plug-in'. For a better answer you'd want to ask in the Prius PHV (plug-in) forum.

Keep in mind the plug-in just came out and the cost over 'regular' Prius roughly $6.5k before tax credits. And they are sold by pre-order only and in limited quantities.

Short anwer about increased electric only range is 'yes', it should increase eventually. But, it won't be anytime soon. Toyota has to balance many things with the plug-in - battery cost, size, weight, warranty ... not a trivial task at all.

I'm getting ready to buy my first Prius. Any news about when the 2013 will be available, and whether there are any changes at all?

Sounds like you didn't read the thread.

    Cliff's Notes:
Probably no change until 2014 at the earliest. The 2013 will probably come out December or January. There are some decent incentives to buy the 2012 now. I believe a 0% for 36 months is even available.

No, I actually did read the thread. All of the posts were from back in early April. I was wondering, and still am, if there might be some newer info out there. But thanks for the cliff notes.

There are changes every model year so wait. 2013 might give you auto on/off headlights and auto day/night mirrors.

That might happen, but it possibly could cost you $100's per year in paying interest too. Your call if it is worth it. For me, if I was looking to buy, it would not be.

It was more than just that though. '12 was an actual refresh with quite a few little changes. '13 is not planned to be a refresh.

I wouldn't expect any major changes for the 2013 Prius over the 2012.
