I have just taken delivery on the model as above ten days ago. Randomly, and under different circumstances in the middle of a trip, the radio will go off and then come back on.

When it does come back on, the XM doesn't work. if I attempt to select "Satellite" from the audio menu, nothing happens. Other functionality such as volume controls or preset controls randomly don't work either. This has happened 3 times in the past week.

Only after letting the car sit - like overnight - does it seem to reset itself and everything works fine again.

Dealer and Toyota say no one has this problem. I can't make it happen for them and they want to see it for themselves. Short of leaving the car with them for an extended period, they can't see it.

Has anyone out there heard of such a problem? Has it been reported to Toyota?

Did the dealer look for any error codes? I'd think at least something would show up if it's behaving so poorly. Sounds like something faulty in the radio. Which radio do you have?

I have a 2012 Prius 3. I am assuming you have the standard system which came with the car? I believe some might have bought the JBL. It would be helpful to know which one it is.

I have the standard system and not had this issue. Is the issue happening after driving over a bump? If so then there may be a connector loose somewhere.

My 2013 Prius c has been doing the same thing. It happens primarily around the 40-50 minute mark of a road trip consistently. Primarily when listening to pandora. I had the guy from the dealership take my car overnight and they replaced my stereo. I am still experiencing this problem with the replacement. They said they had never heard of it before, but still have no solution. I thought I was the only one.

I continue to have the problem I wrote about in January. I have been working with my dealer service manager. Toyota "techs" are supposedly aware of the problem I am having. They replaced the Entune extension box. This fixed nothing. I continue to experience a problem with the audio shutting off and on. Between turning off and on, the "Toyota" splash screen appears. It does it twice in rather quick succession (within a minute). After that, I lose access to XM totally until I shut the car down and start it again. Everything else works fine including the Entune apps, Bluetooth, and NAV. To me it seems that there is something the audio system doesn't like about the XM radio. Once it dumps XM, the off/on stuff stops.

Now the Toyota tech wants to "see" it for himself (like he doesn't believe me). I have to wait until October for him to be in the area. This is really piss poor.

Anyone have a suggestion for a strategy to get Toyota to be accountable to me for a functioning audio system.

My husband is having this problem in his Prius... Says the Toyota splash screen shows up, yesterday it did it twice... But it doesn't look connectivity to the Bluetooth, like if he has someone on the phone and "in" the car then it stays that way never drops just the screen will flash back to the Toyota splash screen... Audio doesn't stop working... Just the screen goes blank then back to the loading Toyota screen

I have this problem on my 2012 Package 4.

Whether I'm listing to the FM or XM, every couple hours, the audio will go blank, the Toyota emblem will display on the screen, then the previous screen will return and radio will resume playing normally (and the GPS will display normally if that was the screen being displayed). The whole event lasts only 2 or 3 seconds. It will happen nearly every day, or more than every day if I'm on a trip, etc. It is an irritant. I can't make it happen or predict when it will reoccur so as to show the dealer.

If someone finds out more about this I'd like to know so that I can have the dealer correct or replace my unit.

My 2013 w/ display audio/entune is having the same issue. I've only had the car a month and the radio will randomly reset or reboot. The one constant in my case is that this has only happened when I press the brake pedal. Anyone get a fix from Toyota on this yet? Not happy about the idea of leaving the car with my dealer for weeks with no result or fix...

I have my Prius Persona in to have this fixed today. I am in Cedar Rapids Iowa. The service department said that I need a new software module or some such thing. I will update with actual issue from paperwork after I pick it up today.

The splash screen would show up after streaming from my iPhone and sometimes, the iPod connection does not work. after the splash, it takes a while to get back to my bluetooth device, but almost never reactivates my iPod (plugged in).

The whole thing is pretty annoying. Hopefully, this will be resolved when I pick up the Persona today.

Thanks for the update Scott. Please let us know it turns out as I'm sure we'll all feel better if there is a fix.

    Cheers!

Update, no problems so far. The paperwork states the following:

    Internal extension module failure
    R&R extension module

Cool. Mine did it again this morning. Sad that something like this can ruin the experience of an otherwise awesome vehicle. Appreciate your help!

    Cheers!

Mine new 2013 plug in has done it from day 1 and they won't fix it because they can't duplicate the problem. Dealership had it for a week. I picked it up and it happened within 10 minutes. It only happens when streaming through bluetooth or when im on a call. video of it during the day and night (to show no power is cutting out)

How did you guys get the dealership to replace? Did replacing fix it?

I have this issue in a brand new 2013 prius. It has done it since day one, and they wouldn't fix it because they couldn't replicate it. I have no idea what causes it, it seems completely random. At first I thought it was my phone causing it, but it happens even when bluetooth is off and my phone isn't plugged in. Then I thought it was the awful nav system doing it, but it has done it when that wasn't being used. It has done it when the radio was on and radio was off. I literally have no idea.
Another thing that happened recently, it seems the problem got worse, is that the nav, radio/sat/ipod/aux, and phone features all crash and the screen doesn't restart. So I can still switch between the setup menu and the car menu on the screen, but none of the other buttons do anything. The only way to use the navigation or audio again is to stop the vehicle, turn it off and then turn it back on. We lost our nav system to this problem on the highway and almost got into a wreck getting lost until we could exit and restart the car. Absolutely ridiculous.

Just picked up 2012 Prius last week and have noticed now that my display screen has gone off and restarted on me a few times now. Today it did it twice. Luckily I purchased an extended warranty with the car. Has the problem been narrowed down?

There's a new Entune update released recently. Everyone should try installing this before running off to the dealer. It's customer-installable and makes things faster/more robust
