While at the Prius v media preview last week, we took the opportunity to shoot some HD video to show off the various aspects of the Prius v. In this video we breakdown the flexible and fantastic interior cargo space that the 2012 Prius v offers. With up to 67.3 cu. ft of cargo space available, the Prius v is larger than 80% of small SUVs. You can read my full review on the 2012 Toyota Prius v here: PriusChat's 2012 Prius v In-Depth Review and First Drive. The unloading of various items from the cargo area depicted in the video is an illustration of when I took every prop Toyota had available and easily fit it all into the cargo area of the Prius v.

So close, you ALMOST put three cars seats in there. That will 'sell' young couples wishing to avoid a minivan.

Great vid! The golf bags really demonstrated how much wider the 'v' is.

Does it have a secret rear hatch compartment?

Can't tell if both bags were side-to-side or if the top bag was on a diagonal. Probably on a diagonal because, if two bags could fit in side-to-side, you would have seen one bag in front of the other, not one on top of the other.

It would be great to get 3 bags in back with the back seats up, though. I'm hopeful but will have to wait until I see one in person.

But let me say "Thanks" for showing it with 2 sets of golf clubs. I reallly appreciate it.

Great news for me and other golf bums on PC. I am happy to report that I was dead wrong in my earlier post.

Looking at Danny's album of 196 Prius v photos, I saw that both golf bags were laying flat on the rear compartment floor - with the rear seats up (and, therefore, usable as seats). One bag may be at a bit of a diagonal but I'm quite confident that we'll be able to fit three, and probably four, golf bags in the rear and still use the rear seats for passengers. I'm now convinced that a Prius v (or two) will be in our garage soon.

This extra usable space is an important consideration for us. We often travel with friends to play golf. Fuel usage for round trips from (e.g.) Phoenix to Tucson or from Denver to Loveland is not insignificant. Even trips to play against clubs located across the metropolitan area often run 40 or 50 miles each way. Naturally we try to car pool but our current Prii are very cramped with just two passengers and three sets of clubs. The Prius v looks like it can easily handle a foursome and their golf bags. Thanks Toyota - let us know when you want us to pick up our new wheels!

I've learned that you can fit many more golf bags in if you take out the drivers. (In fact, it may even help your game to leave them at home!) :D

Maybe the back seats don't slide all the way to where the rear cup holder is located to make sure that some space was still available for the front seats to be moved backwards. The driver's seat has to retain the possibility of movement to adjust to the driver.
Otherwise you put down the back seat and only a certain type of drivers could seat in the front since the seat would not be fully adjustable.

BTW: that surf board set up like that.... you have an accident and that thing flies through your windscreen and becomes a projectile to kill somebody... it ought to be setup in another way, with the front side touching firmly the console and pointing downwards to the front foot-well - don't you think???

I'll bump this question ... does the v have the rear under-deck storage bin?

It's one of my favorite features in my Gen II.

This was answered in another thread: Yes, the rear hatch compartment is still there!

First of all? In my opinion never attach hard driving rock music to a video that shows the installation of a baby seat. Why don't you just tatoo "Mid-Life Crisis" to your forehead?

Secondly, when Toyota discovered the cup holder was being broken with sliding the one seat forward all the way, why not redesign the cup holder? Seems like a compromise short cut to look at that problem and say..."Forget it...let's just make it so the seat doesn't slide forward as far"...

Besides that? One of the worst music videos I ever watched. One of the best demonstrations of the 2010 Prius v interior.

Probably because the cupholder is a standard Toyota design for the rear seat area. It's similar, if not the same as the one found in cars as early as 1997 (Camry). Our 2000 Corolla also had a fold-out rear cupholder and I believe it's still there on the current generation Corolla.

The Prius v is a whole new vehicle. So if something is "standard" design that means we can't make it better?

Standard = Cheaper. And anything's better than the Gen 3 rear cupholder.

Thanks for your comments about the music video side of the review :) That's actually the theme music for the PriusChat Shop, which I guess could lead us into a discussion about midlife crisis...

You mean the one in the middle of the rear seat (you have to pull it down "from the seat" so to say), right?
(I never seat in the rear, hence the question - at it is almost 11pm and I am not going down in the street to check in my Prius... :) )

Yep. If the cupholder is in the rear armrest, it better have a cover or some sort of grip. Any braking harder than a normal stop will result in spillage unless the container in the cupholder is short (like a non-American sized can of soft drink).

It's cheaper to snap in the same cupholder design. Heck, our 2002 Camry had the same interior door release handles as a 1995 LS400.

They'll have a few designs in the back of their pocket but they'll come up with a few individual ones as needed (e.g. the 2nd Gen Prius). I believe the 1st Gen Prius had the same fold-out rear cupholder...

I think you guys are slightly missing my unimportant point. It's not so much that the cupholder is a "standard design" well made, or cheaply made.

It's more Toyota noticing that pulling the seats all the way forward...so both sides are even- resulted in that cupholder being broken...and reacting to that, by simply making it so the one seat doesn't pull forward all the way.

That seems to me to be the simplest way to fix the problem. But is it the best way to fix the problem?

Obviously, I can't tell from the video. But is there any advantage or would there be any advantage to both seats being able to be moved forward to an equal point? If not? I guess it doesn't matter...if so? Then I think Toyota took the simple, affective but easy route to resolution.

Also: I'm Installing a Baby Seat! Rock On! Rock On! Whooo! Yeah!~ Guess that's just part of life....

Well I guess it depends on the stage of the design. If it was caught on earlier, they may have redesigned the cupholder (or maybe there were just taking the easy solution). Besides, the gap between the seats and the floor behind may lose an inch or two. Not too bad.

I didn't realise it was only one seat. I thought they liimted both so that both would equally stop at the same spot.
