My 2012 Toyota Prius C has had its engine light on for a while now, but I haven’t really had to worry about it until now because I need it to pass emissions. The problem is that after I changed the battery and got a new battery from advanced auto parts, and the engine light went off, after driving it for a few hours, it came back on. I took it to autozone and it gave me the same P0A80 that it gave me last time and told me to get a new battery. So now I’m kind of at a standstill because I don’t know what to do and I need to get the engine light off so I can pass emissions and get a tag on my car. Anything helps, really.

Trouble code P0A80 is for a problem with the Hybrid Vehicle (HV) battery, not for the 12v auxiliary battery that you replaced.

That code means that maybe one of the cells on the hybrid battery is not able to hold voltage at the load as it is needed for the system to work the way it was designed. You might need to remove the hybrid battery, measure the voltage of the cells under load using a 12W light bulb if i'm correct, and the cell whose voltage gets too low will need to be replaced.

    How many miles on her?
Are you prepared to spend a few thousand on a new hybrid battery?
