2012 Prius V with 124k miles one owner Florida car very well maintained and clean. Still on original hybrid battery. It is selling for 11k. Is that a worth while purchase or am I just buying a headache.

No headache today but it can empty your wallet for repairs. Bad years were between 2010-14, while 2015s have better piston rings. Head gaskets and brake boosters require extra strength Advil. Oil consumption, inverter failures and a hybrid battery are likely in your ownership. Many are replacing engines.

It's about $2000 over-priced, but that's the crazy car market of today. I has about 40k more miles than ideal, but ditto. Google the owner to see if he has anything "shady". Run Techstream on it looking for current and previous codes. If it's for sale by a dealer pass it by - they can hide more things than you or I can find. If I needed a car I'd buy it if it passes all these tests. If I didn't need a car I'd wait for the coming recession to get serious.

Get a Non Hybrid car....... I bought a Pontiac Vibe (toyta matrix) 35 mpg and very easily repairable.

I can only speak for my 2012 Prius V. Its been fine. I had the ERG valve replaced and a gasket on the timing chain cover. But other than that I have only needed oil changes and basic maintenance. I haven't done anything with the brakes yet and I have 84k miles on my car. The hybrid battery seems fine. I think the car is fine as long as it has been maintained well. I really don't know what a good price is for this car. But 11k seems a little high, although with other car prices who knows.

I bought a 2013 Prius v back In early 2019. It had one previous owner and 80k miles. It was maintained meticulously. Oil changed every 5k. I followed the same schedule and had the EGR cleaned twice during my ownership. It now has 190,000 miles. ZERO ISSUES other than maintenance. I’m hoping to make it to 300k.

Just perfect miles for the really bad stiff to start happening. This is where it all starts to happen. Do go on a long trip.

Two timely EGR cleanings and 5k oil changes, could take the biggie off the table.

Brakes... Traction Battery. ... water pump..... all prime to go out. Has the Inverter blown yet? Really bad when your out of town.
About $5500 or more for the parts installed.
The prius sneaks up on you... no warning. You think you have great car then..... boom.... your screwed.

    And Expect the Henway malfunction.

Our inverter's got all the updates, so knock on wood. My biggest concern is the damn brake components, but again, cross that bridge if-and-when. With the water pump: probably good to replace at 150K miles at the latest, in conjunction with a coolant change. Do the thermostat too.

    Updates mean nothing.
    False sense of security.
Mine had the updates but still blew at 35 mph. Coasting.... 1100 miles from home.
