My mint condition 2012 Plug-In Advanced was totaled and the insurance co doesn't want to give me anything additional for CA HOV stickers. Anyone know a way to place value on them? Price range?
i don't think they have any additional value at this point, since the total quota was just expanded to 85k. so anyone can go and buy a new PHV now and still get a sticker. That said, how much are they offering you for the resale value? For the Advanced, you should be getting at least 25k, if not more.
The 2012-2013 (non-Advanced) PiPs seem to be going for $20-$22k if and only if they are low mileage say <35k miles. Posters here have nabbed regular PiPs for as low as $15k (and I have seen on internet) when mileage is getting to 75K-85K miles range.
As the others have said, they really don't command a premium because of the recently authorized additional 15,000 stickers. When the yellow stickers ran out in 2006/07, Priuses with those commanded up to $2,000 over non-stickered ones. This situation isn't repeating today, alas. But the good news is twofold for you: You are eligible to receive replacement stickers for your totalled vehicle, provided you replace your '12 with another PiP, and there are now more available that renders that exercise moot.
this is really region-specific. I'm seeing ads for 21k for cars with way more miles than 35k in northern california.
