2012 prius came out with the 5x114.3 bolt pattern plus the spare tires is a 135/70/17. Does any other 2012 Prius model use this tire and will this spare work with the new PIP?
I'm pretty sure only the Prius v uses the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. Also, a 135/70/17 would have a larger rolling diameter than the 195/65/15 found on the Prius hatchback/PiP.
It will mount, but its a smaller wheel/tire combo. It looks like it is a 125/70/16. Here are the various rolling diameters I calculated: 02-05 WRX spare : 1870mm 10-12 Prius spare : 1954mm 04-09 Prius spare : 1834mm 10-12 Prius full size : 1992mm I'm not sure how a smaller wheel/spare on one of the Prius drive (front) wheels would work. On a car equipped with a limited slip diff, you'd want both sides as close as possible in rolling diameter. I don't know how the Prius transmission stuff works so I can't say. It may also affect the ABS adversely as well.
Funny, I've actually owned 3 of the 4 you listed ('02 WRX, '08 Prius, '12 Prius). Thanks for the info... this is good to know in case I get the idea of using the '08 donut on the '12. The difference is about 16 cm or ~ 6 inches per rev ... The Prius doesn't have LSD but this would probably mess up traction control on the front wheels. May be okay on the rear wheels for low speeds.
