Is it normal for a clicking and ticking noise to constantly originate from the JBL audio navigation system? I've noticed this noise while the vehicle is in electric mode at a full stop. The noise is also present while driving.

I checked the 4 disc cd changer and they are empty. I usually use the blue tooth system to play the music.

2011 Prius III with JBL navigation system 9,000 miles on the odometer.

    Thanks!!!

I have not heard any clicking or ticking noises eminating from my head unit, in 9 months and 15k miles. The only noises I hear on occasion are the Prius noises the various whirls and hums from the HSD.

When you are stopped you are in EV mode or are you stopped and the engine is not running but your in one of the other driving modes? You said it happens when driving also, what mode are you in then? Does it happen with the radio on and off? Have you tried a different station or audio input if so is are the noises still there. Does this happen all the time or is it intermittant?

I believe it is the nav DVD. I don't hear it all the time at stops or real slow speeds - typically after I've used a destination, or had some interruption to the GPS signal (storm, left the window heat shield up while powering up; maybe also during two-week GPS updates?) Too faint for me to hear it w/ egine running or over 15-20 mph.

Yeah, it's the navigation dvd. I can hear mine if I have the radio off, windows up and am going slow. That isn't often so it doesn't bother me but yeah, you can hear it.

I consistently hear the ticking/clicking noise while:

    1. Stopped in electric or driving in electric or gasoline mode.
    2. I've observed it while the radio was on or off as I was making a conscious effort to identify its source.
    3. It occurs while in blue tooth, am / fm and while the unit is off.
    4. It occurs while the unit display maps, radio, acc blue tooth, info .

    thanks!~

The clicking noise in my unit doesn't end. I would imagine for the unit to locate the current position in a map should be no longer than a few seconds right?

How long would you say the clicking noise last for in your unit?

I will have to try and listen for mine now.

If it is the map DVD as suggested above try ejecting and driving without the Nav. DVD installed and see if it goes away.

I have the same issue on my 2010, and the thing is its much more noticeable now than it was a year ago (never noticed it a year ago!) so... why is it getting louder and/or more frequent and is there something that can be done about it? It IS the Nav DVD, I verified it by ejecting it (clicking stopped). Nevertheless that's no solution. I want to know why its become so noticeable (and annoying!) now whereas it was never noticeable before.

Make sure you share your concern with your Toyota Dealership prior to 36,000 if you don't have an extended warranty!

I had my vehicle serviced today for 10k service, and intended to report the nuisance ticking noise of the navigation system but it was silent today. It's been irritating lately, often while vehicle is in park, or at stop lights.

Let me know if you find a solution please!!! =)

Same problem here. Dealership "says" over the phone they have never heard of this problem :),,ahh sure..... Gonna print out this thread and show the service person. I'm sure they just don't know what to do with it. We thought it might be the reg cd's trying to load or cycle through, but the Nav DVD makes perfect sense..TY
