And the Prius v is slower than that. Oh decisions, decisions. I really like the dash of the CT. Speedo directly in front of the driver, and its dynamic changing from a elec gauge to a tach with the power selection dial. I kind of like the Camry Hybrid's system and a true neutral in the shift lever. It also has a nice speedo and did I mention, 0% for 60 months. But the trunk space on the HS 250 is better.

CT200h may not necessarily end up slower than Prius 0 to 60 mph, but it could with 200 lbs extra heft.

Many reviewers including Cons. Reports test Prius over 10 seconds 0 to 60, I've seen 10.4 on Prius many times.

This little car may be a decent alternative to the Prius for those who are looking for a decidedly more 'sporty' package and design. It's not as practical or cost effective as the Prius, to be sure, but you'll never find a Prius with a black interior, power seat or sport styled interior.

Will everyone say, pffffft. I'd rather have an Audi A3. No. Some are looking for a hybrid and on that note, 42 MPG combined is not too bad. Even a regular Civic only clocks 29 mpg combined.

there's no way an extra 200 lbs. knock it down to 40. has to be the engine, battery or a combination thereof. or the gear ratio's. and it's smaller.

Maybe its the bigger, wider tires, higher CD, and more aggressive power settings? A reviewer at TDD found it rather fun, and basically kept it in Sport mode and didn't let up his aggressive foot and still got 38mpg.

And don't let macmaster05 read it. I may have to get one before him.

I test-drove both today. The Prius seemed much snappier. I have had a Prius since 2005 and I don't think I have ever floored it. I floored the CT twice, just trying to get it moving.

The dealer told me that particular CT was "a prototype" and not a production model (they are not officially out yet). I'm hoping that explains it sluggishness.

dgstan, did you try sport mode?

maybe it felt slower because it was so quiet and smooth.. (smile)

The engine requires premium as well. Presumably, that's to increase power and improve power delivery.

Makes sense, perhaps in Sport mode, it will be quicker.

Interesting link. What is the author referring to here ?

quote: An important difference between the CT 200h and the Prius is the smoothness of the transition from electric-only power to the gasoline engine, which is barely perceptible here. Since the powertrain is the same, we’re not sure what accounts for the difference but it’s definitely there.

Yes, the pedal was on the floor in sport mode and the car had no get-up-and-go. It had to be either bad software or something to do with this particular car. There's no way ANY car would be that sluggish. At least I hope so, because I really had my heart set on the CT.

I'll try again with a "real" car on Monday and report back.

And yes, regular gas is the recommended fuel.

    It uses regular fuel

 I don't get it. How is it ok that 200lbs = lower mpg but 200lbs != slower 0-60?

    Weight affects acceleration too!

With more power (than Prius) which the CT does not have because it has the Prius drivetrain.

My coupe is 300 lbs more than Prius, but, it is 190 HP and 162 lb ft torque (at 4k+ rpm)

    So drivetrain is identical then.

The use of 91 octane in the Edmund test is unnecessary.

Yeah, it's identical aside from packaging (just like how the Prius v is identical except for the battery and inverter packaging. They're lighter than those found on the 2010. Toyota's always improving).
