2010 Transmission issue? On highway and engine rpm skyrocketed.

    2010 with 172,000 miles. Driving home today and just before my exit I hear and feel a clunk. The engine is revving and I can't go faster than 30 mph. Lights on the dash everwhere. Stop the car and turn it off. Start again. Engine light on along with every other light. I know it does not have gears, but for descriptor clarity, it is like a car that won't shift out of first gear. Will take the back roads to the dealer tomorrow. Any ideas ?

    could be a number of reasons. you want to have the codes read. might be the hybrid battery, or just the 12v. but probably not the e-cvt.

    Any ideas on cost to repair?

    there's a recall on the ipm module inside the inverter, not sure if you're covered or not. if not, a salvage part and a private mechanic should be fairly reasonable, if oem is too expensive.
    even a whole salvage inverter is only a few hundred bucks, iirc.

    Thanks bisco. Just looked that up. It is warranty extension ZE3 and does in fact warranty the inverter for 15 years unlimited mileage. If the code P0A94 involves the IPM, that will be good news. I will see the dealer tomorrow and post a update .

    I thought inverter failure immobilized the whole thing. Yours seems to be different. Please keep us posted and report to the feds if you feel it's a safety issue.

    Update. Dealer called and said it is the IPM. it will be all covered under the ZE3 extended warranty. Parts will be all in tomorrow. Work will be done tomorrow or Monday. He said it would have been several thousand to repair if not covered. I have never head of any auto manufacturer extending a warranty for 15 years and unlimited mileage. Thank you Toyota.

    They knew about a design flaw in the IPM so they extended the warranty on it rather than having to replace all units in a massive recall.

    Update. Got my car back yesterday. Dealer had it for one week. Had to wait for the IPM parts to come in. Shop labor time was 18 hours. Dealer said that they were billing Toyota $2100 but if not covered it would have been close to $3000. They paid the whole thing. It could be my imagination, but it seems to run better.

    I've got a foggy memory that someone here was being told by Toyota, that the Integrated Power Module, which is physically inside the Inverter, is not part of the Inverter, and therefore not covered by warranty? (n)

    I forget how that turned out (or if it happened). Anyone else recall something like that?

    Yes I remember something about that. She got it replaced no cost to her if I am thinking straight
