2010 Prius Nav Stuck after dead battery. Won't reset! Pls help.

    Hi. I have a 2010 Toyota Prius. The battery went dead, so I jumped it. The car started fine, but the Nav system is all black and says "Please insert Nav DVD". I do not have the original Nav DVD. Anyone know how I can get around this? I've read some posts saying to disconnect the battery, but I'm not really sure how to do that. I feel like i've been through this before and the solution was simpler. In the past, I remember an option to 'skip nav dvd setup' or something like that. Unfortunately, I don't have that option.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Can you eject the DVD and re-insert?

    Press the Close button on the Nav unit. A selection should come up with a selection to eject the DVD. The front of the Nav will move out and down and expose the CD and DVD slots. The DVD disc should be ejected. Re-insert the disc and it should close and reload.

    If this does not work, find your 12V battery in the right rear corner of the cargo area. Follow the negative (-) lead to the chassis ground connection just below the rear tail light. Remove this ground connection for a few minutes then reconnect.

    You will probably lose your radio presets and maybe your window auto feature. For the windows lower the windows and hold for a second at the bottom and then raise and hold for a second at the top. This should reset the auto feature.

    Hi JD -
    Ejecting the disk did not work. I've also tried using several burned copies of the NAV DVD, and none seem to work. I don't know where the original disk is.
    As for the ground, I disconnected it for about 2 hours. I came back and the moment I pressed the power button, the Nav unit was asking for the DVD. No option to get around it. Nothing.

    I've never seen anything like this.

    Most stereos have a tiny reset button. I'm surprised there isn't something like that on this unit.

    Any thoughts?

    You can call the Toyota corporate HQ for help. Tell them you are in need of a NAV DVD because the car is asking for it.....and you never got one when you bought the car. Maybe they'll help you fix your problem.

    Do you know anyone that has a known good DVD that you can borrow ? It could be an issue with the DVD.

    I was wondering the same thing... It's incredivle that Toyota wouldn't put some sort of bypass..

    If you have a good relationship with your dealer they may have one to let you try.

    I was able to get it working! For anyone who runs into this issue, I had to finally burn an ISO image of the Maps DVD using Nero for Windows. I guess the Nav unit didn't like something about the way Toast or Burn for Mac OSX was burning the discs. Either way, I booted up Windows using Parallels for Mac and used a trial of Nero to burn the ISO... and that did the trick!

    My experience with the Prius nav and entertainment system has been generally disappointing. I'd list all the problems, but it seems pointless.

    i am having the same kind of problem, same thing happened with me and i have navigation DVD but thats not inserting, something is blocking. please give me advice

    that would be considered a lie and lying is not very nice. its also not nice to advice people to lie about things. Don't lie, just tell them what your problem is and they are people too and if you are willing to help they should be too. why assume negative? prepare for worst hope for the best but do not lie.
