2010 Prius dash lights

    My 2010 prius had the following dash lights come on all at once: slip indicator, ABS (yellow), Break (red), and ((!)) which I believe is the brake warning light (yellow). The front brake pads were replaced last year. The rear are probably due for replacement. The only symptom in driving is that when I first push the brake to turn on the car, it feels a bit firmer but otherwise there are no other changes to the vehicle. It drives the same, there aren't any strange noises.
    I took it to an auto shop to read the codes and it said it was an issue with the EGR.
    Could that be causing all the brake lights on the dash? What else could it be?
    Is it safe to drive till I figure it out?

    I don't think even in the generation 3 all those lights will light up for an exhaust malfunction they will generally for the brakes malfunctioning and there's a lot of different malfunctioning problems that can happen within the brake system which is generally the exclamation point warning light to me seems to be the check engine for the braking traction control and VSC system and that's on in your car and that's probably what needs to be looked at a good stout code reader will be needed to get the codes so anybody you speak with about the codes that is a little knowledgeable will have somewhat of an idea of where to begin That's where we generally start.

    The shop that read the codes did not read all of the codes. A limitation of the tool they used. This is a common problem with more sophisticated cars like hybrids.

    These cars are complex enough that it is pretty worthless to guess what the problem is. Somebody needs to read the codes out of the computer(s) to figure this out. If you want, you can be that somebody by using the car's built in blink code reader. That reader only works for the ABS & traction control systems, so if your car has other faults it can't show them.

    A Prius brake pedal can change feel for a variety of reasons. Not all are terrible. Just last week, we had an issue with a wheel speed sensor that irritated the ABS computer to the point where it locked out regenerative braking. Our brake pedal felt different all week just because of that.

    The braking system was built to be redundant, but the warning lamps you are seeing are an indication that there is a possibility you are down to your last chance now. So you can drive at least a bit, but it would be smart to make those miles in the direction of a repair facility.

    Hey Mendel One of the guys on one of the garage channels the mechanic shops mentioned you in one of his videos the other day I don't know if you know who I'm talking about or not I can't remember his name sounds like somebody down south or something was a video about EGR cleaning and the knocking noise that the two ZZ makes.

    I think Toyota's Techstream system is used across the board, on every car they make, hybrid or not. In other words, it's not just hybrids. Don't think it's just Toyota either: recall South Main Auto guy working on a Ford, needing to "introduce" some replacement on-board computer: it was virtually impossible, even with paid subscription. He ruefully said you're never going to see these cars in a classic car show; once manufacturer support dries up they're paperweights.

    Yes cars like the Gen 3 or 4 or even the five if that comes or is out will never be classic cars it's probably impossible or they would be non-running classic cars that have had resto mods done maybe turn them into non-hybrids and put two ZZ high-powered Corolla engines as replacements or something along those lines but the chassis and bodies won't make it that long to get to the resto mod state You're talking these cars being 25 years old I'll let the generation 3 one of them that I have here even if I cover it and set it over in a safe place on the property when it reaches the 25-year mark and we pulled the cover off of it they'll be nothing there to resto believe me door panels won't be fixable all the plastic inside the car will be dust etc this is just the way this is done now It won't even get to a paperweight stage it'll be trash before it becomes paperweight.

    Right, but who claimed that this car was checked by Toyota or with Techstream?

    A Prius with the ABS, BRAKE attention and warning lamps illuminated will have some C codes stored in there.

    So, if the OP states visiting an "auto shop" which only comes back with something related to EGR, this tells us something.

    EGR performance codes are part of the "universal" SAE diagnostic domain shared between all scanners and all >1996 USA cars.

    So if the car is showing dash lights that always mean there are ABS error codes to be read, but a diagnostic scan reports P0 codes but does not return any C codes, then I have to conclude that the diagnostic scanner wasn't Techstream or equivalent. Find (or become) a better diagnostician.
