im in the process of buying a 2010 gen3 and I have a query. I haven't seen the car yet but have see pictures, in all the pictures the ignition is on and so is the passenger airbag light (in yellow) I haven't asked if the airbag is switched off yet but if the airbag is switched on should that light be on? I don't want to travel 200 miles to look at a car that possibly has faults, the money that they are asking is such it should be flawless. This is a UK spec T4 car btw Thanks for your help
I think the "passenger" light may always be on when the car is on, but it won't say either "Air bag on" or "Air bag off" unless someone is sitting in the seat. Once someone sits in the seat, it'll decide if they're an adult or a child, and then turn the air bag on for adults, and indicate the status through one of the two lights. The only warning light you need to worry about is the SRS warning light on the dash; if that light stays on (beyond when the car first starts up and runs the self-test), then there's a problem. In that case, the Air Bag OFF light will be illuminated.
When there is a passenger in the front seat the airbag should always light on , that means it's armed or functioning .
Either with or without someone in the passenger seat, there'll be one light or the other on. It is kinda jarring, gets you thinking something's wrong, but that's what it is. For example, if you have a lightweight kid in that seat, the lights will warn that the air bag's off.
