2010 LED Headlights

Another member here, 'a priori' recently posted pictures of the LED headlights side by side with his Gen 2 Prius for a side by side comparison. (http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/62192-led-headlamps.html).

I also have a Prius V (Blizzard White / Misty Gray), and have to admi that one of the reasons that I 'had' to get the V was for the LED headlights. Now that I have been driving it all around for the last week, I must admit that I am thrilled with their performance. I think the lighting is excellent and sharp.

What I like the best about them is the sharp cutoff that they produce. When I am driving in traffic, my lights never shine above the bumper level of the cars ahead of me. Also, when I turn at an intersection, I love knowing that I am not blinding any other drivers.

The lights are bluish, but light up very white on the street surface, allowing you to see everything on the road. On top of that, when I use the High Beams, Damn near everything lights up for what seems like miles!

 

As eglmainz noted, there is another thread dealing with the LED headlamps, particularly as they compare to the HIDs that were available on some of the Gen2 models.

If you are familiar with those HIDs, then the set of photos I placed in that thread showing a comparison of the light color and spread should be of interest. Here is a link to that particular posting.

 

The LED headlights were one of the reasons I got a Prius V, since I've been driving cars with HID headlights for 10+ years and didn't want to go back to dimmer halogen headlights.

I don't have any pix, but can tell you that I'm very pleased with the performance. Very bright, white light--similar to HIDs.
