    Hi All -

Just curious as to what others are observing regarding oil usage/consumption in the 2010. I'm just about due for the first oil change; what I noticed was zero consumption during the first 1500mi or so, and then, over the course of a vacation driving about 1500 mi (including a fair amount of mountainn driving), it consumed about 1/8 of a quart (best guesstimate as per the dipstick). Then, no more consumption after that (and I've added no oil). FWIW, this comports well with what I observed in my last new car--an Acura RSX type S. Honda was *adamant* that thou shalt not change the oil for 10K mi when new. I was reluctant to comply, but I did. The Acura burned about a 1/2 quart on my first long trip, and never a drop after that.

(Aside--I do miss that sweet little road-hugging, 200hp baby that still returned a solid 30mpg, much more on the highway, with nary a peep of trouble in 110K. I'm more than happy with the Prius, but you all knew that;). Too bad I can't keep 'em both).

Anyhow, I'm curious as to what the others here are seeing vis a vis oil consumption. Your thoughts/observations analyses?

    Thanks much,
    Tim

I had my first oil/filter service at 1,800 miles and the oil level hadn't moved in that time. I check the oil level every month when I cgeck the tire pressure and it's been steady.

4,500 miles today; the oil is clean and the level hasn't budged.

i have no noticable consumption in 3000 miles, this includes some mountain driving.

if it was my car, i wouldn't worry about such a small amount of oil consumption.

Your RSX was designed to burn a small amount of oil due to the type S having some sort of oil injection ports in the V Tec cylinder
head or sprays in the bottom end as I remember. I had two myself but not the type S, Check the RSX chat rooms. Also it is OK to burn a small amount of oil during break in:mod:.

We have over 8,000 miles on our prius. Oil changed at 5,000 miles by me and no oil was noticed to be consumed by the engine.

I changed with 4 quarts of Mobil 0 X 20 Synthetic, (note the manual states 4.4 quarts, but 4 quarts is between the halfway and full mark, perfect from my pespective.

So far no oil consumed, and I expect none to be at 10,000 for the next oil change.

We are quite pleased with this Prius. Last two fillups were over 55 MPG by miles driven and gallons used. The MPG guage is usually over estimating by 2-3 MPG. This is my only gripe about this car.

A little oil consumption like you had is actually good, if no oil is consumed, then the upper cylinder, I.E. compression rings aren't very well lubricated. There have been studies that showed that when an engine began to consume a little oil, the ring wear dropped quite drammatically.
Beside it's entirely possible that your oil control rings just took a little time to seat.
