Given the number of internet cautions about the 2010 EGR's problems, every 30K miles or so, I have a look at that EGR pipe between the EGR valve and the intake manifold (sometimes referred to as the "canary in the mine"). I'd expect that at 148K miles (238 km), that I'd have to clean the EGR system. It's still fairly clean!

The question is: Why? I suspect that it's because I'm very careful to not take short trips where the engine never warms up, and I do very little stop and go traffic driving. An occasional all day trip on the interstates gives the car the proverbial "Italian tuneup".

I also change the oil every 5K miles (8K km for the other 90% of the world). The engine burns a negligible amount of oil between oil changes.

    YMMV

I have 360,000 mi just turned over this week on a 2010 solar roof JBL I don't know what trim level of Prius five door perforated leather seating surfaces so on and so forth even at 360,000 mi with never an EGR clean the pipe that you're talking about is about like yours at $148,000 I have not pulled off the intake manifold to take a look at the real business that needs to be looked at The car just hiccupt about 3 days ago and got some codes for a misfire that immediately went away and didn't set off any lights. I only saw them because I connected tech and looked. So now the owner of the car is grasping at straws talking about the wrong spark plugs and all this and that and I'm telling the lady look spark plugs at this point don't play a major role We can take a look at them just because but they've been fine up until this point. We are actually way overdue for this nonsense and have only staved this off by keeping the car in the wind for its whole life and now you have 360K and the head gasket issue in the death rattle is rearing its ugly head Man you better put one up on the chalkboard and leave that alone and we shall leave that alone now It's done it's a duty as well paid for and we're done back to a generation too until it's time for whatever's next.

That pipe is good to check because it’s easy to remove. The EGR cooler and valve tend to be more clogged, will be worth cleaning, ditto for the EGR passages in the intake manifold.

There's a chance that the manifold is the thing to check first if your time is limited, because those four passages can clog differently and the car has no way to notice that, and the result can be some cylinders suffering the effects of too little EGR and others the effects of too much, and the engine controls doing nothing about it.

Every other part of the EGR system, as it clogs, will affect the overall flow, which the ECM can monitor, and react to, and tell you about.
