Yeah they're making a unique hybrid AND the CR-Z concept hybrid.

So there will be two lower end hybrid models. It should be very interesting.

    They never were giving up.

Although I remember quite distinctly on several occasions where several good folks here at PriusChat insisted otherwise. ;)

A friend of mine just bought a 2007 hybrid and he's thinkin about selling it and getting the 2009.. Is it even that much of a difference? Sorry if it seems like a dumb question. I'm a newbie

Honda will continue with the usual 5 year model cycles. The next significant model update is scheduled for 2010 as a 2011 model.

Again, the current model will remain relatively unchanged until then. What you will have though, is two additional and distinct global hybrids joining the HCH; one of them scheduled for production release in 2009.

It's expected that the HCH-III will get the cheaper hybrid system.

    That is interesting.

You mean, it will get a derivative of which IMA generation the 5th or 6th? The latest plan roadmap released to investors made reference to making the Gen 3 Civic hybrid the flagship IMA platform since no other larger model will implement Honda's parallel hybrid tech. The global subcompact will have the most compact and affordable hybrid system and hence a "cheaper" gen 5 IMA derivative which will debut in the global sports hybrid.

Well I haven't been keeping track of the generations but basically the new low-cost hybrid system that'll go into the hybrid sports car and the Fit-sized hybrid-only car will find its way into the new gen HCH.

I just saw this at Honda's site under new models and concepts ...

"...Our newest hybrid is a futuristic five-door hatchback that sports a unique style and sleek design. It is powered by a new lighter weight and efficient Integrated Motor Assist IMA® Hybrid system that offers a spirited ride, with plenty of amenities. And it’s all within your reach, starting in early 2009."

This is really good news! I'm thrilled to hear the Prius will get direct, 5-door hybrid hatchback competition, from Honda none the less. Whoohoo! Yeah!
    In early 2009! :)

I just ordered a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. To my knowledge the only changes are leather seats and perhaps some minor cosmetic body changes. I did get the navigation package and some other accessories. The dealer is really in the dark about details. I will take possession on or about Oct 1
