Well, it's finally out. Compared to the old HiHy's pricing, it's very very well priced and I think it's a bargain. Compared to the US pricing.. well no comparison of course.

    Highlander Hybrid: $42,825 (It's a 5-passenger model)
    Comfort Package: $47,580

Highlander Hybrid Limited: $55,975 (About $3k more than the regular Limited V6 4x4)

    Comfort Package:
19" Alloys on P245/55R19 tyres, Full-Size Spare Tyre, In-Dash CD Changer, Rear Automatic Climate Control, 8-Way Power Driver's Seat, Flip-Up Rear Hatch Glass, Power Rear Door, Privacy Glass, 3rd Row Seating Recline/Fold-Flat/Vertical Headrest Adjustment, Outside Temperature Gauge, Rear Seat Remote Release in Cargo Area, Rear Spoiler with LED Brakelight, Dual Illuminated Vanity Mirrors, Rear Reading Lamps, Puddle Lamps, Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel, Leather-Wrapped Shift Knob

    Colour me green with envy
At least you can get them -- I'd pay that price gladly.

All we can get here are used JDM Harriers and Klugers starting at about $65K

I haven't been to Australia (kinda wish I did) but are 4x4s really as popular as in the US? Are they for show like in the US or are they really taken off road?

Don't forget, Toyota's thinking of producing Camry Hybrids in Australia for the Australian market!

Uh... I'm in New Zealand. We're not attached to OZ (thank goodness)

Sales of SUVs here (in NZ) have quadrupled since 2000.

When I asked Toyota New Zealand about TCHs for here (NZ) they said they have no plans to bring them here. Same for the HiHy.:(

S'ok. Its easy to tell us apart from the aussies, we're the good-looking smart ones...:p

The most popular were truck-based (called utes), toyota & mazda pickups for our many unsealed roads.

For the townies, the utes used to be holdens and fords (think el camino or ranchero) but now these are mostly driven by rich tradesmen.

Now the townies and rich lifestylers all own prados, pajeros, etc and we call them "remuera tractors" (remuera is a toff-nosed suburb in Auckland)

So you folks are basically embracing the SUV craze that America did nearly 10 years ago?

I think you can put that in the past tense, it started about the same time here as it did there, but never reached the same size. No Hummers, H2s, or those big GM & Volvo behemoths I've seen on other threads here. Only occasionaly see a dodge ram truck, that's about as big as it gets, and they look grossly out of place.

Mind you, petrol is at about $1.80+ a litre.

It's $1.10/litre here and that isn't stopping anyone. In fact the market gap is getting wider. There are more and more small cars (smart, Yaris, Fit etc) and yet still more and more larger SUVs (XC90, Tahoes, M-Classes, X5s etc).

Tideland, I think you misunderstood me...
When I said "what don't we get?" I was being rhetorical.;)

The vehicles I listed are in today's inventory at my local Toyota dealer.
I just copied the list from the Dealer's website.
(& I left out the Lexus line)

If I click on any one of them I get a list of the individual cars of that model available along with photo and specs.
I could go get any of them today.

The list of NEW Toyotas available here is much shorter
(the other list are used vehicles)

    Yaris (starts at $19,950)
    Corolla ($25,990)
    Camry ($36,500)
    Aurion ($41,990)
    Avensis wagon ($43,070)
    Prius ($43,650)
    Previa ($55,990)

    Rav4 ($38,400)
    Highlander ($49,990)
    Prado ($69,990)
    Land Cruiser 70 ($57,900)
Land Cruiser 200 (get in line)
    Land Cruiser wagon ($109,500)

    Hilux 2WD ($30,990)
    Hilux 4WD ($45,600
    Hiace ($40,250)

The NZDollar sits at about .77 USD, so that new Prius is $33,611.
BUT we get paid in NZD not USD ;)

Wow.. can't believe the Prius is the most expensive car (that or I can't believe the V6 Camry is so cheap lol).

We're sitting about par with the USD so that's about Cdn$33,611 too.
