I was hoping the 2008 Prius would be a plug in, or at least serial electric.

Sorry if this has been gone over many times already, but we're looking to buy a prius and trying to figure out if there is any reason to wait for a 2008.

So, what is the word -- will there be any big changes in the 2008? Or do we have to keep waiting?

Scan the forums, you will see numerous posts on the 2008 model probabilities. The main thing to know as has been listed here previously is there will be no major changes on the 2008 model year, with the possible exception of different package options.

Toyota makes major changes every 5 years. Since the present Prius started with the 2004 model year, 2009 models will have the big changes. Look for Litium-ion battery pack and a new, compact Power Split Device (PSD). I think they will add the Lexus two speed shifter for MG2 (electric motor), but the ICE power path will remain as is...

Back to topic, I'm hoping a welcome minor change to MY2008 will be OEM EV. It's rumored to be in the MY2008 HiHy, so I'm doing the OEM EV install on mine to make it look like an '08.
