Can anyone tell me when those vanity lights under the sunshades are supposed to turn on? I've tried pushing the sliders but I can't get them to turn on... Is it just me being retarded, or did my dealer forget something on the checklist?

The "vanity" lights come on when: The switch next to the ligh is ON AND The mirror is exposed AND The visor is in a position to view the mirror from a seated position If you swing the visor up or all the way to the windshield, no lights. If you slide the cover over the mirror, no lights. If you turn the switch off, no lights. Now try to figure out why the glove box light is on all the time the headlights are on.

I was somewhat amazed at this too: Toyota put three switches that all have to be on for the visor light to come on: on/off switch, mirror cover switch, visor position switch. Overengineered much?
Not really. The on/off switch is so that you can have the circuit closed (the ON position still has a drain) which is good esp. since the Prius has a smaller than normal 12V battery. This also means you have leave it in the ON position and not have to turn it on every time you open the mirror cover. The mirror cover is designed such that if you left the switch at ON, you can just slide the mirror cover without having to do the extra step of turning on the light every time. (i.e. it'll function like the vanity light on any other car without a switch) Visor position is so that you save the battery when the visor is not in the position such that the driver or passenger is using the visor mirror and needs the light. Again, to prevent battery drain if you left the mirror cover open.
