Hello everyone, My new (2007) Prius came with 2 smart keys. One works, the other I was told, needed a battery change. I changed the battery but it is still dead. I noticed when performing the change that the old battery had been in there for way too long and it left the battery compartment all rusty. The contacts seem good though, as they appear to be either gold plated or brass. Nonetheless, it doesn't work at all. Does anyone here have any ideas? It was a brand new battery so it's definately got charge. Thanks Dave
If the old battery leaked electrolyte into the non-working fob, then you probably need to obtain a new fob.
You should have asked the seller to replace the battery and demonstrate that it works. Too late now; maybe next time. It sounds like the corrosion is too extensive and it's shot. A thorough washing/cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and a tooth brush followed by a thorough drying period before installing a new battery might help.......but the odds are not good. It is also possible that the "new" battery is dead too. Sometimes a locksmith can get and program a replacement for a LOT less than a dealer.
