Hello, I have a 2006 Prius, just over 17,000 miles, and bought it new just over a year ago. I got in it to go to work this morning, put the key in, pushed the power button - and nothing - it did not start, no sounds, no warning lights, nothing - completly dead. I tried both keys, nothing. I had driven it Saturday, didn't drive it on Sunday. I tried to lock the doors this morning, after trying to start it, but neiter key worked. Any clues? Thanks,

Without this battery the computers cannot boot and nothing happens. Something may have been left on or ajar to drain the battery or worse it could have just plain expired. A jump start following the procedure in the manual may fix it or let you better assess the problem. Failing that, a tow to the dealer is probably in order. With everything dead you cannot easily open the hatch to get to the battery; there is a jump start terminal in the engine compartment fuse box so trunk access is not necessary. The manual provides info on opening the hatch from the inside if that becomes necessary. Good luck

One poster from PC said it cost $5K but it may be some exaggeration there. Lots of blown fuses and fried components on boards in the car. Take heed and ensure the cables are connected correctly. It is true about not being able to get it out of park to move it for a jump. Open the battery compartment and clean the battery terminals on the small 12 V battery with a wire brush and put some dielectric grease on the terminals to minimize corrosion as this battery does not have much AMP-Hour capacity and does not take much to drain it. After you get it going again, get into the habit of always locking it no matter where you park it. If, when locking it, it does anything other than giving one short beep, that is a signal that something has been left ajar or turned on.
