Hi all, recently I've been having a problem with the cruise control on my 2005 Prius. This seems to be an issue of whatever turns the cruise control on/off. When I press the button on the end of the cruise control "control stalk", it has become very inconsistent as to whether or not it will actually turn on and give the the "Cruise" light on the dashboard. Once on, it can then be very stubborn to turn off again. In other words, when I push the button with cruise OFF, it may or may not turn ON. Or if cruise is operating and I want to turn it OFF, it may stay stuck in ON.

If the Cruise light does come on, the actual cruise control mechanism seems to work fine. And if cruise is working, it does turn off when I push the brake pedal (cruise light on dash stays lit). It is only getting cruise control to activate/deactivate via the stalk button that is a problem.

What/where is the mechanism that activates cruise control when the button is pressed? I'm afraid that I have not yet had a chance to do any research on this, I thought I'd be better off coming straight here, where I might find someone else who has had to deal with the same problem.

Just thought of one other possibly useful piece of information. I had my wheels aligned a couple of weeks ago, and the problem started a few days later. I really don't know if that might mean anything but thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds like you may be getting clock spring issues everything on the steering wheel communicates through the clock spring just a thought Do any other buttons on the steering wheel not function doesn't matter if they're related to the cruise control?
