I would not recommend paying over MSRP for a Prius since the allocations are due to double soon. That is, unless you really need one right away. A few months from now you'll be wondering why in the world you did it.

Toyota Prius was hoping to be doulbed however due to the lack of ability to produce the hybrid battery, this still remains in question.

That's interesting since their Press release dated TODAY says they'll be shipping 100K cars to the US this year with world wide production at 180k. I'm chosing to believe the official Toyota Press release and concur that anyone paying over MSRP should be in desperate need of a car right away since in a few months these very same scalpers will be begging for sales at MSRP.

I don't think many of us will forget those who've been trying to take personal advantage of the situation.

And you got that information where? I ignore any "from someone I know" information. There are more people who "know" things than there are things to know. I don't think Toyota would say "we are making 180K Prius units" if they didn't think they could.

Seems to me that any dealer posting a $4K markup and FUD about whether Toyota will make the 180K units is suspect beyond belief.

If anyone is considering paying you $4,000 over MSRP for that AM, I hope they go find the thread that is titled: "Am I Stoopid?" and read the title out loud a few dozen times. Then they can go find a dealer that isn't greedy as all get out.

Not quite the same words, but I suggest that you read the Los Angeles Times "Toyota to Increase Imports of Prius" article which is linked on the Home page of this site and in the News forum. A Toyota spokesman is quoted to say: ""We're not sure how quickly the cars will come in, since some production issues have to be worked out." It sure reads like a supply problem to me.
