Went to leave in the car and the read triangle of death greeted me and main screen said PS. No warning previous to this but now have no power steering and checked for codes with ODBlink and nothing. This is a hydraulic power steering system?? Checked all fluids and everything looks fine. Do I need a new pump??. Car does have over 220k. any help much appreciated.

Or Torque Pro if you have an android device and your dongle is compatible with Torque Pro. You need the Pro version if you want to interrogate all the Prius ECUs, like the power steering ECU. There is a code in there, your current solution just can't see it.

I would think the OBDlink would bring up a simple code other wise it's junk. Did watch youtube video and one guy tapped on the power steering control module and it worked again. I tried it and what do you know it's working again.Going to get a spare from the junkyard just in case. Thanks again.........................Matthew

maybe corrosion or a bad solder joint

unfortunately, because of priuses 9 computers, most readers are totally confluxed

It depends on what you base your assumption and how you define a simple code.

The most basic of code readers will only interrogate the ECM, some others add the SRS ECU (airbag system) and/or ABS ECU.

The reader you want is one that reads all of the Prius' ECUs and interprets the data correctly.
If it does what it says on the box it will do, then it is not junk. If you are trying to something that is outside of these functions, it doesn't make it junk, it just makes it useless.

If I buy one off amazon can it tell me why my car (05 Prius ) won’t turn off sometimes ? Also the cluster lights don’t work sometimes as well (no speedometer)!

Geeze, the Prius does not have a PS pump, nor fluid! It was one of the first mass-market vehicles to use "EPS" or Electric Power Steering.

You likely have a failed combination meter. These threads are a good starting point:

    combination meter repair - DIY

T-SB-0172-09 Combination Meter - Intermittent Display

In both threads read the first one or two pages then skip forward to the last two or three pages.
