I'm 2004 prius owner. Recently I lost all of keys. I have no any keys.

So I contacted a Toyota dealer who said it costs $2400 including 2 keys & programming.
Another Toyota dealer told me it will cost more than $4000.

    I've been hesitating....

Which one much better between selling my car and fixing the car.....

If I repair my car, what's the best way?

    Please give me better advance.

    In advance I appreciate it.

    Thanks

if you are in America join triple A plus, I think its $125..
wait a week then call and tell them you lost the ONLY key fob and they will send a locksmith out with a new one free...
it used to work but you can only do it once..
then order a used one off e bay for $40 and follow the steps to reprogram it.
even if they want to charge you something its cheaper then the dealer and you will have a year of road service and towing

    good luck

where do you live, In Tampa there is a place called tampa hybrids that will setup a new key for you for 150.00 including the fob. if they can charge that little, I'm sure that there are places out there that can do it for a better price.

that's to copy an existing fob ...they have to reprogram the car at the dealer when all fobs are lost

I'm sure that Steve at Prius hybrids sales and service Scottsburg Indiana can supply a pair of fobs and the ECU that they are paired with at a reasonable price. Ask a local Prius repair facility how much to install the replacement ECU. If you were able to get to southern Indiana, Steve would get you going at a low cost.

    Joshua,
A 2004 Prius, the reset can be done via software.
A new ECU is not needed!

Your Prius can be reset via Techstream with a seed code if all keys are lost.
You do not need to replace any hardware.

Here is the screen in Techstream.
    It says...
    Smart Code Reset:
Use this function to erase all Smart Codes in case of losing all keys.

You could fly me down to Florida, we could go to dinner and a show, I could bring new keys and program your Prius, all for about $2,000 less than what the dealer is quoting.

I have the techstream from Amazon. the $25 special, will this version still reseed the key fob without any special codes or I.D numbers? my car's SKS and black door buttons are not working and the original fob was destroyed so I have the basic functions with a fob from e bay..I have wanted to try the reseeding but don't want to erase the one working fob making the car inoperable .

    Your question...
Will Techstream reseed the key fob without any special codes or I.D numbers
    The answer is, "No".

Techstream is able to generate a 96 digit Seed Number (challenge), but in order to complete the process you would need to enter an appropriate Pass Code Number (response) based on the Seed Number.

Techstream cannot generate the Pass Code Number on its own.
You need an outside source/service/program to generate that Pass Code Number.

    Example of Seed Number (challenge):
    2434720b07120da077acc87353dc16d5f4bb45d16c6d4ead5b2ac87abbeb668be07fb9198a8fc366988c841054666b66
Example of the Pass Code Number (response):
    647852
(This is just an example. This set of numbers will not work for you.)

Not quite sure what you mean by door buttons.

    Two things
    1) fob starts car
    2) fob unlocks doors (using fob buttons or sks functionality)

    Obviously you have 1.

You will not be able to use the fob to lock or unlock the car via buttons or via sks if it has not been programmed.

the black locking buttons on the outside door handles and hatchback don't work, fob must be inserted into the dash for the car to start, metal key must be used to lock and unlock the doors from the outside..valet button under steering wheel has no effect, same problem in both positions...maybe theres a bad connection somewhere

Does the red light come on when the FOB buttons are pressed? Button could be stuck and battery could be dead.
