Just a little information. I just replaced the OEM dead battery (shorted) with one from WalMart. It's a 26R-3. The case size, as well as the terminals are a good fit for the OEM battery. It is NOT, however, a sealed battery. But... it works. Just an update. The battery has been installed for a few days. Now I can easily confirm that when the battery is dying the MPG decreases. I did have two clues before the battery death. The clock time was wiped out and I didn't notice it at once. The second clue was a failure to start problem throwing a CEL. It cleared itself. The MPG before the death of the battery was about 45mpg. Now, the MPG has raised to 50 to 51mpg. I'm pleased....
