My car has been in the toyota shop all day they cant figure out why it wont charge up fully Car has 350k on it; traction battery replaced 100k ago--inverter replaced has 60 k on it. Cars battery will fully charge for about 800 miles and then start charging only half way, transmission only has about 80k on it.
What is telling you this? Are you looking at the little battery bar graph on the multifunction display screen? If so, don't worry: it is normal to only rarely see a full charge there. Battery life can be shortened by extremely full charges or discharges, and the car's computers manage for the longest battery life by aiming for a moderate state of charge pretty much all the time. It's not a bug, it's a feature. I can't think of any other instrument built into the car that would tell you the information you are giving here. Are you using any sort of aftermarket instrument to monitor the battery? -Chap
Thanks you for your response, on my 2001 prius the battery will only go to have a battery on the display screen. In otherwords it wont go to a full battery on the display screen. The battery will always show half full on the screen and will drop down to a quarter screen when traveling on the interstate. The toyota technician doubted the accuracy of the screen. However the performance of the vehicle and the gas mileage testify that the screen is accurate. The toyota dealership had the vehicle all day long and were unable to determine why the battery was not fully charging. They told me that everything checked out and they were stumped to know why it was going to a full charge
