results i think is a understatement. I filled up the day after I installed the HV battery, that was last Sunday. 300 Miles later I didnt even hit half tank, honestly this is the best tank ive ever experienced on a gen 1 prius. The MFD says 54.4 mpg, im not sure how normal of this is but I am able to use just EV at 40 mph. overall, Im impressed with the gen 2 battery, not only do i have better gas mileage but also more power around town.
Were the modules from two salvage packs? Did you do anything to equalize the state of charge of the modules? Pictures? Bob Wilson ps. WELL DONE!
first post, bought a gen I with a bad battery, thanks for all the good info. I am debating between a new battery from toyota for $1600 or ,like statultra and others, rebuild from two gen 2 batts. How is the cover problem going and is there a need to equalize the charge between the two battery cells from the donor packs. Electro power is new and interesting for this old mechanic!
Yes. RC hobby supplies have automated battery chargers that can safely bring each of the 38 modules to 100% charge. But there might be an easier way: charge 19 modules in each donor pack to the same target voltage - they are already in series - 136.8 V (Ok, round to 140 VDC) swap in the two sets of 19 modules to the NHW11 fire it up Bob Wilson
Hi Bob,thanks for the quick response! How would you charge to 140 vdc without a special charger? Guess I will start looking for two 06-09 bat packs tomorrow-will have some extra cells to share-now to tear down my old pack-and see if I can charge the old cells-for fun and education!
I am wanting todo this ASAP! Please take a look at my thread @ http://priuschat.com/forums/generat...-hv-battery-rebuild-2g-cells.html#post1123053
