2001 Prius for parts available in Balto-DC area


My wife's 2001 Prius has been replaced with a 2002 Prius and we don't want the 2001 anymore.

Here's the story: It's got 167,000 miles on it and the main battery was replaced by Russell Toyota in Catonsville, Maryland ,costing $3,200. After they replaced the main battery, they said they got a code that the inverter pump needed to be replaced for $500. We consented to do all of this. Then, when they finished that, they said they got a code that the transmission (their words) needed to be replaced to $6,500. At that point, they wanted to sell us a new car, but would not take back the new battery that had been replaced the week before, as it was now a used part. They would give us an allowance of $1,000 toward the purchase of a new car. The auxiliary battery was dead when we picked it up and is now disconnected but we able to drive the car away from Russell after a jump start.

So we have a 2001 Prius with a new battery and inverter pump and the main computer was replaced about a year, year and a half ago.

The body is in decent shape, with the requisite amount of dings and scratches on it. My wife was going to keep this for at least 300,000 miles, so while we took care of the body, we weren't anal about it.

If anyone has access to a Prius "transmission" and wants to work on it, it would be a great project. The auxiliary battery needs to be replaced along with the "tansmission" Or, if you need one for parts, this one has a lot of "new" parts on it. I say "new", but they are in a used car, but we haven't been able to drive it.

It also has a brand new set of tires, as of last fall. This repair work was back in May; I am just now getting around to dealing with it as we've had a bunch of other stuff to deal with and I didn't have the time until now.

We replaced this with a 2002 with only 67,000 miles on it and my wife loves it as it is just like the 2001. We did not get it from Russell Toyota, however.
