In today's newspaper column Click and Clack talked about the dangers of under-inflated tires. They also said that over inflating 10-15 psi is generally not a problem except for the harsher ride, AND that that a tire's burst pressure is around 200 psi. No, don't try it. PA P
I run at 42-40. I dont think the ride is that bad, even on my dirt road. Now, with the OEM tires getting some wear on them at this point, the ride is loud. I'm going to have to replace them before winter sets in, and I'm seriously looking at the Michelin's. At this point though, anything would be quieter.

I've heard that all tires must be tested to a burst pressure 8 times that of the maximum sidewall pressure by industry requirement.
With a friend who has a "trusted source inside the tire manufacturing industry", I was told 4 - 5 times the sidewall suggestion. Even that puts the burst level of a Prius tire around 175psi or so. With this new Click and Clack info, I don't mind so much running at 55/53.

The offer is for a "set of 4 Michelin OR a set of 4 select BF Goodrich Tires." All Michelin tires are eligible for this discount. The select applies only to the BF Goodrich tires; all the models listed in the fine print are BF Goodrich models.
