The one on the right side I see mentioned often but I also have another vent in the middle. No one has commented about this on Reddit so looking here. It is not in the owners manual. I notice the middle vent gets quite warm. I want to know why I'm having such a hard time finding out about the middle event. And why does it get warm?. No guesses. Only comment if you really know.

If you don't want people to guess, a photo would be helpful.

I know. I tried a dozen times to upload a photo. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

    I see the photos now.

The thing is, I don't remember seeing that on our 2016 so it's baffling to me. The location of that photo makes it seem like it's just a vent. (Not necessarily an exhaust vent. Definitely not intake as the intake is the one shown in the manual). The reason why it's warm is because the HV battery is located under the rear seat. That silver piece you see through the vent slats is the battery casing. It's likely Toyota made a change for 2017 and newer but didn't bother to update the manual. (I checked a 2022 manual too and it has the same pictogram as the one you attached).

I would like to know why the vent in the middle was determined to be added to my 2017 Prius. I'm surprised I can't find the answer on the internet. I don't like having extra heat enter the cabin. It's summer. I don't understand why they couldn't direct the hot air to outside.

Ok thanks. I drive on hills often. I notice anything sitting there, like a water bottle, will get quite warm. I would have thought Toyota would have a better way of expelling heat from the battery. And I'll try not to spill my water there or else I'll have to go to the dealer. Says manual. Yeah right .Geez.

Those are inlets, pulling air in, to be exhausted out the vents at rear corners of hatch area?

I think this may be a non-plugin that has a panel from a plug-in. On the plug-in, that should have a filter and lead to a plastic duct for a cooling inlet to the charger. OP has the non-plugin manual and seems to be seeing the non-plugin battery there.

Production error? Deliberate part substitution? Sloppy repair?
