I have a 2008 Prius with the 1F7 Classic Silver Metallic paint and I am looking to replace my front bumper. I found a good bumper in a salvage yard but it is a 2005 or 2006 Prius with the 1C0 Silver Metallic paint. Does anyone know if these are similar enough colors that the bumper won't contrast if I replace it? Thanks!
Welcome to PriusChat!! They are different shades of grey with silver metallic. 1F7 has a medium grey undercoat, and 1C0 has a light grey undercoat. Even with the potential for solar paint fading of your Texas vehicle, I would think there would be some noticeable contrasting. Of course YMMY or not. Yes. Good idea to pass on them. I found that out a few years ago when I replaced my '07 rear bumper cover with an '05. Didn't realize until I got home that they are quite different. Now I have an '05 that right after I bought it, a large dog ran in front of me and destroyed the front bumper cover (unfortunately, the dog too). I replaced it with my '07 cover and there is a huge contrast in color. I can't find an '04-05 cover anywhere. '06-'09s are a dime a dozen in CA.
You can't tell much from the pics I posted, as they are in direct sunlight, but most of the time you can notice a difference and it doesn't look good.
Some dealers have prepainted bumper covers. You want the right paint code but expect to tell the difference in some lighting. Your car's paint has faded and painting on plastic is different than on metal. Often you can tell even with a complete car paint job at one time. Overall its the best fix.
