Hi guys. Brand new. I need to replace the 12 volt in my ‘16 prius 2. There’s only one made that I am aware of through dealer. It’s the Truestart H4. Problem is I don’t want to spend $260 for it (cheapest I can find and only through dealers). Is there any updated info on people using other batteries. Its not the lithium version for the eco trim. Base standard Prius 2. Here’s the only battery on earth I can find so far :

No luck at the salvage yards.

The 12 volt battery is the same on a ll Gen 4s. The high voltage traction battery differs though.

Have you let your 12 volt battery run dead? What makes you think it needs to be replaced?

Here it is for $185 but I do not know what they charge for shipping.

Had the battery tested. Have to replace soon. Just looking for alternate options if any before buying this one.

That battery is for the Eco trim. Not standard. Different battery. But thank you

Not covered by warranty? I had a problem with my 12V battery - it wouldn't hold charge for more than a few days - took into the dealer and they replaced it on the spot - no questions, no charge.

Except Optima says their battery on that page does not fir the 2016 or 2017 Prius. I would be very wary unless the specs, including size, match exactly.

If a light was left on and drained the battery that is not a defect covered under warranty. That is expected behavior.

All Gen 4 use the same 12 volt battery anyway. That is what I would likely buy for my 2017 Two if shipping were reasonable.

Does anyone have a ‘16 Eco model that can post the sticker specs on their 12 volt. Their is two different part numbers and two different different prices. Not sure how they can be the same battery. $100-$150 difference in price.

I think you'll find that it's only the traction battery with 8yrs warranty

along with a new battery, you ought to investigate cause of failure.

It’s well used. It’s not a failure. And it still works. Just the 12 volt warning pops up on every startup. And battery testing shows I need a new one soon. Strong batteries. Just not $330 at the dealer strong. Ha. :)

Agreed - I was thinking of asking if there is a reason why it is failing? There were some posts about this a while back.

From memory, the issues mentioned included
    • car sitting idle for a long while (was it several weeks)
    • car with FOB close-by
    • car left for long periods in ACCESSORY MODE
What signs have you had that the battery is going to fail?

[Incidentally - your comment that it "isn't lithium" would only be relevant to the ~200+ volt Traction battery in some models.]

If anyone who sees this thread has replaced a ‘16 Prius 2 (non-eco) with the Prius ‘16 Duracell Ultra Agm with success let me know! Thanks!

does 'well used' mean you have a large aftermarket draw like a stereo or dash cam, or does it mean you have intentionally drawn down the 12v many times when not in ready, or something else?
