I think once you get the CM monitor which is your display that has your gas gauge your transmission and whatnot once you get that sorted other communications will restart I've had the same problem in two here we've gone round and round with the '09 and it's just working. We changed the CM monitor with the Texas hybrid recapacitor unit on the '08 it's only been in about a week so far it's flawless You know things are not correct when you open the door and you don't see the icon in red on the dash saying that the door is open or the hatch is open You will not have a display without that warning showing you that the door of the hatch is open guaranteed get that communication straighten out and a lot of other communication magically starts to happen again this was kind of discovered many times I think.

    Hello and welcome to PriusChat!

If you have a B1271 code, I am guessing that sometimes when you press the power button the speedometer and other dashboard lights don't turn on.

If so that's a common problem on this generation of Prius. The Combination Meter (speedo assembly) has a capacitor on the circuit board that slowly degrades. That can prevent the CPU on that circuit board from powering up, which affects the display and disrupts communication with other systems.

It all leads up to other codes and problems turning the car on and off.

Repair involves removing the CM to replace the capacitor, or replacing/ repairing the CM. TexasHybridBatteries.com can repair your CM or sell you a replacement that's programmed to your odometer reading.

There's a long thread "combination meter- DIY repair" at the top of this forum that discusses this problem.

FYI, your first 5 posts are moderated and might take some time to appear on the forum.

It's like 225 from Texas hybrids with a box included to send your old one back You have to provide your VIN number and your mileage and they will set your new speedometer All comes in a box ready to go from what I understand they replace like three capacitors or something along those lines I can see them compared to the one I'm sending back this car had the CM monitor code now with this display installed it does not.
