any 06 owners out there care to explain how you switch to aux-in if you, for instance, plug in your ipod? what happens? do you have to switch manually or what? i glanced over the miles-long 06 threads and didn't see what i was looking for.

also, for those seeking bonus points :) there's a 5 digit number in the lower left corner of the head unit (well that's where it is in the 05 anyway.) anyone feel like giving us that number?

we're trying to play with an aux-in for our 05.

thanks a TON in advance! B)

I was suprised to see that the aux in on the 06 prius is not on the dash, but in the armrest... thought it was a much better idea for functionality and storage...

Yes. According to the manual, you must press a "DISC-AUX" button to the left of the "SCAN" and "TUNING" buttons on the radio. This switches the radio manually from the CD player input to the AUX.

Is this a physical button, or a MFD button? If the latter, could it be added in a firmware update?

I just plugged in the iPod mini jack to see how it would work a few minutes ago.
Press the MODE button on the left side of the steering wheel and the AUX display will come up on your MFD.
Set your iPod volume up a ways and then go to AUDIO on the MFD to adjust the setting for your treble, bass and mid.
You can then adjust the volume on the steering wheel normally.
    Rock on.

I'm curious about the aux input. I'm thrilled that it's in the armrest as I've had an iPod stolen from my car already (ironically from a closed armrest). However, is there a power port in there so I can plug in the charger??? If so, way to go Toyota on thinking ahead!

Yes, there's a power outlet in the console. Always has been, since 2004.

It certainly exists in the 2k5, so I would imagine it exists in the 2k4. Inside the armrest compartment, down near the bottom front.

Now, back to the original question! Anyone get that number off the head unit? All of us 2k4-2k5 people would love it if galaxee found a way to get AUX-in to work!

Sorry to ask what will be a dumb question, but I'm new to the ipod. I can't get the volume high enough in the car, so the volume on the ipod is probably set too low. How do I turn up the ipod's volume?
Thanks for bearing with me on this........

Just trace a circle with your finger on the click wheel (i.e without pressing down). Clockwise for Volume Up, Counter-clockwise for Volume Down.

Duh - I was trying to change the volume without having a song playing. I thought there was simply a volume setting. Thank you Betelgeuse!

I think I see where this thread is going...

does not appear that can you install an 06 stereo in an 04/05 Prius...

The Aux jack is the obvious advantage, but what about MP3?

that can't be accomplished by a firmware upgrade?

    I am looking here:

oh man. we totally forgot about this thread.

basically, among this and other threads, we've come up with the idea of hacking into the tape player, but audio quality wouldn't be as good as through the cd player, plus you'd be cracking the case of your head unit which is an instant void warranty on that entire part.

rather than deal with that major of a procedure, we went with an aftermarket ipod adapter.
