i recently read a post somewhere here about warping of the speedometer cluster, i saw pictures too. i recently parked my prius in front of my house, the sun was beating on the inside, and the digital dash part was concaved not to the point of nonlegible numbers or anything, just a bit noticable. After that i parked it in the shade and it was perfect.

Anyone have this problem or annoyance?

It doesnt seem to be anything bad to me, but i just hope it doesnt become catastrophic warping

    That was my post:

As you can see, mine was not merely an annoyance or temporary problem. I hope, and it sounds like, yours is. Regardless, even a hint of transient warping may be a sign of a trouble. I would watch it closely.

Maybe there is a fundamental design flaw here, rather than simply a defective part in my car. Or maybe a bad batch of this part in some of the 2005s. As I said in my previous post, the technician had not heard of the problem before, but there's a first time for everything.

As a follow up to that thread, the Canvas Works sunshade I ordered is working fine. (We've had several days with temps in the 90s.) Since it's a custom-fit shade, the bottom fits flush against the inside bottom of the windshield. So the instrument cluster is now inside the shade rather than outside. I figure it stays cooler than with no shade, whereas with the other shade it likely got hotter.
