Though I haven't tried it on my Prius, a beefier anti-sway bar made a big difference on my Volvo.
To the OP, maybe trade cars with your mom for a couple of weeks (a tank of gas or two). That would determine if it's the car or the driver.

Yes! Clean the egr and intake manifold. Also, install an oil catch can. And you might as well change the plugs and coolants while you're at it....
My money is on Totalled. It's just easier and cheaper for the insurance company. If that happens to me, I'll take the payout check to the Toyota...
