I changed everything. I have a JVC head unit, Audio Control amplifiers, Audiofrog mids and highs, and Massive ToroX 12" subs.
If I did lose any oem functionality, I didn't notice. I would start with replacement speakers though. Probably the biggest bang for your buck.
I just grounded mine to the seat bolt.
I agree with Chris on it being install issues. And personally, I never use solder in anything that has vibration. Circuit boards being the exception.
Both priuses that I've had have done that at least once, but not regularly.

I'm not sure how you can calculate mpg more accurately than the computer unless you know PRECISELY the level you're filling your tank to.
I think the idea is manipulating your sound stage. Higher frequencies (voice, symbols, etc) should be up on the dash area. In my opinion anyhow.
