Mendel, news blurbs are stating that the fires from Canada are burning from the west to the east with the east side of Canada affecting the Eastern side of the U.S. Are there fires in the northern regions of where you live? Just trying to comb thru the fiction and facts.

Hi Mendel, I appreciate your comments on my coolant mystery leak awhile back.
My next big task with my car will be to fix the AC system, there's a leak somewhere.
Wondering if you'd be so kind as to share some repair manual pdfs if you have any.
      Thank you, Carsten
P.S. I used to live just across the border near Bellingham

I’ve looked, but stumped. Lots of miles. The head gasket looks like Toyota (at the least not a blue FelPro) , with virtually all the coating missing on intake side, and failure between one and two cylinders (the usual).

You rock! I'm going to tackle the EGR cleaning process, and I'm going to Menards to buy some tools and didn't know if you had advice on what to buy to help remove the clamps and hoses?

There’s special pliers for pulling off hoses. For how infrequently I need them, I’ve never got around to getting them though. I did post a hose removal tip in your thread; what works for me.

Hi Mendel you look like the guy everyone goes to. Would it be possible for you to get a Prius v 2012 model repair and maintenance manual?

Hi Mendel I got my brakes needed from an ordinary mechanic. He did it like they normally do. I have a Prius v 2012. They did not put it invalid mode or anything. So what am I missing or was it worth it. Just did not have time to do it. Should I get it done again from Toyota?

I am currently in the process of head gasket replace on my 2013 with about 212k and was wanting a good diagram of the timing chain markings. I always notice you posting links of them (diagrams) through Toyota's website. I have scoured it to avail. Could you please point me in the right direction?

Hello Mendel. I know you have provided some good information that looked like it came from a Gen2 shop manual. Do you have any insight into the kind of grease that is used inside the Gen2 steering rack? I am going to attempt to take off the boots and grease what I can get at. Local dealer did not seem to have this info.

Will pm an excerpt. There's generic names for a couple of greases, hopefully findable.

Hi Mendel, bought the ctek 4.3 and was confirming where to hook up the negative end of the harness with the comfort attachment. Is it okay to hook it to the negative bolt or does it need to be hooked up to the part attached to the body of the cars grounding bolt? Also do you leave yours on continuously or disconnect once fully charged? Thank you

Hi Mendel. In a 2021 post by Ilovegirls about head gaskets you explain why coolant blows out the coolant reservoir. Very helpful thank you.
I have coolant blowing out the reservoir consistently on my 2013 PriusV (237,101). Bars & K-Seal have worked since about 130,000 mi. Question- Is this the “death rattle” or are there bandaids that will extend the life without a full head gasket repair?

I’d start a thread, I’m not really expert. With your history, I’d look for a salvage engine. Some have used 4th gen, or just sell. See @Ragingfit video on that transplant, pinned at top of Prius v mod’s forum (weird location but makes sense). You’ve been bandaging for over 100k.

Hello Mendel. In one of your posts, you suggest that people send you a message and you will send back a link to a service manual. I could really use the service manual for 2ng gen Prius. Thanks very much! Lynn Kasdorf

Hi Mendel. I would like to replace my valve stem seals and need an in-depth, step-by-step guide on how to do this including part numbers. Do you know of any threads or videos that show this? I can't work with a general overview of the procedure. I need specific instructions. Many thanks for your help.

Mr. Leisk, is there a video on how to fill transmission fluid from above as you have done? thanks... CR

Not sure, haven't seen one. I just heard the suggestion, to use a hose extension on a funnel, worked well. Keep outside diameter of the hose around 5/8" and it should fit. It's good to have a helper pouring, so you can keep an eye on it; have them stop when it starts to overflow. You can pour 3 quarts/litres before you have to start being careful; it'll take about 3.5.

Thank you sir. Saw some of your comments on egr cleaning, replacing cooler etc. Currently at 99K on my 2014 prius v, and just cleaned the egr pipe. It was clogged a bit. Now nice and clean, and veh runs well. Do you think I need to replace the cooler as some have suggested? Thanks... bigrin

Some have a replacement cooler, pre-cleaned, to save down time. Or if it’s proving impossible to clean original. Other’n that, I would just clean what you have, which should be doable at your miles.

      Hi Mendel,
I am considering a 2013 PIP with 58K miles. I am a DIYer, can handle EGR.
I will check the battery and test drive.
Do you have any other advice? bisco recommend not buying any Gen 3, so I'm wary.
      Thank you,
      Lee

So hearing the pressurizing and grunt sound are good sounds? I will read up on Gen3 brake booster.

The pressurizing sound, just so you can recognize, is what you typically hear when first opening the drivers door. After that it should be quite infrequent. If you hear it often, say every 30 sec subsequently, and/or grunt sound when stopping, it’s sign booster pump is failing. You’re looking at $2~3k to fix through dealership. There is warranty extension, but with time and mile limit.
