The HU I got was nice, but pretty entry level Pioneer. Down the road I might end up swapping it out with a higher end unit, or adding a DSP. But I do not know, it will depend on how everything goes in, and how it sounds of course, after I've made all the tweaks I possibly can Peace
Oh okay. I forgot you were "also" running the factory HU. I sure wanted to do that, but the car was too new, and nothing made yet that was plug and play for a DSP ☹️ Supposedly, with an adapter I bought I'll be able to keep my steering wheel controls, and also my backup camera.......
Hey doiter, I'm especially interested in your opinion on HU's.... I just posted about this on the regular forum. I don't remember, what kind of HU are you running ? What size screen ?
Ill have two sources. 1) OEM HU 2) Ipod/Topping D10S DAC. Both into the DSP. For daily, Ill use the OEM HU that is connected high level (speaker cables) into the DSP. For critical listenint, The Ipod connects to the DAC with usb, then I use a coaxial digital cable from the DAC into the DSP to be able to play high-res music. I like the look and dont want to lose the OEM HU functions.
But now I'm thinking I the TY4 harness (which is what I used in my 2019, but just couldn't remember that far back) is going to work, where the TY2 that I got by accident was completely different ! Urgggg. Probably be another week now before we can try again. Oh well. Peace
Oh, and one more kind of crappy thing... So they went to install my system this morning, and apparently I had bought the wrong wiring harness ☹️ I think someone told me the wiring harness for my car. At first I thought it was just changes in the 2022, which would totally screw me if I couldn't find anything to plug and play....
There doesn't seem to be much info on the 2022. I did some research and decide to keep the oem head unit but have the option to go straight into the dsp for better quality.
> but have the option to go straight into the DSP for better quality. < What type of DSP do you have that lets you do this ??? Obviously I'm hoping the new TY4 harness is going to work with my XLE, but If not, I'm going to have to try something else... Thanks.
A lot of dsp will allow to do so. Ill be using and iPod touch into a Topping D10S, then from that via coaxial digital into a MINIDSP C812 DL DSP.
My last system used the Kicker 5ch that was fused for 90 amps, and it never gave me any problems, but unfortunately they discontinued that amp, so I went with an Infinity 5 ch also fused for 90 amps.... Mostly out of concern for electrical problems... Pulling too many amps....
Hey I was checking out your system and I bet it sounds really nice ! Definitely a more technical and more expensive system than mine. I was trying to research your amps, to see the total fuse ratings, and I think it is like 3 x 40 amps ? So have you ever had any "electrical error" messages, or warning popups ?
The amps do have 40 amps fuse each, but in an SQ system you don't push them to hard. Shouldn't be a problem.
Hey, once again, I think its awesome that you took the time to sound deaden your Prius :) I know from experience in my truck, that it does make a BIG difference :) Hey I wanted to ask though, did you do this just for a quieter ride ? Or do you have any kind of an upgraded stereo system ?
Chris. Im upgrading the sound system right now. Its posted in the "Gen 4 Prius Audio and Electronics" sectioin of the forum.
Im a dumb nice person... I had forgot their was a stereo section :) lol I'll go post photos of my new box. Hopefully getting everything installed to day... had to do a few things slightly different than my 2019... different amp... and only 98% sure the same DSP will even work with my 2022... It's only been tested up to a 2021 ?
