About
2010 Prius with solar panel sunroof. Dark grey with custom tires and wheels, tinted windows. This car has been in the shop more than any car that I have owned:
Total brake failure- towed to dealership only to have them argue with me on who should pay for the towing charge. Part turns out to be a recall that they had not noticed me on, not to mention putting my family in harms way. Covered under warranty.
Head gasket replacement- Issues with burning oil. Dealer discovers oil leak and replaces head gasket to see if that is the cause. Covered under warranty
Still burning oil, now out of warranty- Now on a monitoring program where we take the car in every 1,000-1,200 miles to have them top it off and chart the oil consumption. So far, it's burning approximately a quart of oil every 1,000 miles which Toyota considers normal. Really? I've never owned a car that could run out of oil before the next oil change! Apparently Toyota has had issues with faulty piston rings on other models including the Prius. There are class action suits in process for the other models but not the Prius (yet). This issue is still on-going. Since the issue was never solved under warranty correctly I will press for the engine rebuild to be covered.
Second total brake failure- now out of warranty and again putting my family at risk. Dealer told us the bill would be $3,200 but now will cover it since it's the same part that they replaced before under the recall.Interact
