THE WAY TO STOP A RUNAWAY PRIUS If you car takes off and you cannot control it, simply hit the PARK button. The carinstantly goes into neutral. I tried it tonight and it works. I was worried about my wife's '08 taking off on her and she says she has a hard time shifting it into neutral. Just hit Park. Bingo! Engine and transmission are disengaged. I did this with my foot on the gas... engine raced but car was stopped with simple and normal brake application.
