Guys, I was driving late this afternoon, and making a turn when the Red Triangle Warning Light came on. I pulled over as quickly as I could. When I stopped , the Hybrid System Warning Light was on, which freaked me out. I called the Toyota dealership and the fellow said to wait 10 minutes and try to start it. I tried that a couple of times, and the engine would come on, but then it died. I had it hauled off to the dealership with a wrecker, and now have to wait until Monday to get the verdict. What do you fellows think it is? I am really worried it is a major problem. Thanks
I think you are right. If you only had the master warning light and the MFD hybrid system icon come on, and the car cannot be driven, then my guess is that the traction battery or transaxle has failed.
This is freaking me out because these are very expensive repairs, am I correct? One possible scenario might be a stickly throttle plate because I noticed early yesterday when I was driving it that when I tried to accelerate, leaving a office supple store, that it felt like I had a hesitation, something I had never noticed before. Also, when it died late in the afternoon, I was accelerating from a complete stop. Thanks for your input, Patick. Larry
Hi Larry, Since you did not say the check engine light was on, I do not think that the throttle plate is the issue here. In any event I'm very interested to hear what your dealer tech has to say. Good luck.
Patrick, Yes, the check engine light was on , in addition to the others indicatiors. I forgot to mention that. Larry
Patrick, It was the throttle plate that was gunked up and I also had a pecan shell that was stuck in the air sensor. I definitely dodged a couple of potentially big bullets. Thanks for your feedback. Larry
My first guess was going to be "is there gas in it?", but sounds like you found the problem. How did a pecan shell get that far in past the air filter?? Got a rodent problem? . _H*
Hey, I probably have a dozen squirrels that live in my back yard where I have large pecan trees, but I doubt they would do it. This was the first repair in 130,000 miles, and this car is an unbelievable vehicle.
Hello to all prius lovers, my '01 prius bogged down due to mechanic stupidity. the battery computer is damaged but as far as i know this item is repairable. does anyone out there who want to sell their '01-'03 used battery computer ecu? kindly please help!!
U could very well have a mouse or squirrel problem, especially if U have oak or pecan trees near your driveway. Several times, I've raised my hood and found acorn hulls piled up in a low spot on the engine. I have even put containers of decon or similar rat poison in the engine compartment which were emptied by some critter. This may not be a good idea if u have lots of cats in the neighborhood. But this is a fact, if you've got any kind of tree nuts in your yard, you will have some mouses or squirrels around. One other note, if you put any containers in your engine compartment, use double sided tape on the bottom so they'll stay in place and don't forget to remove before driving.
