There have been numerous reports about rattle noises in the Prius III cabin. This poll was created to try to determine how widespread the problem is.

I have the car for a week and started to hear a rattling noise in the passenger side dashboard. I think it's where the smooth part near the windshield meets the textured part. I will check it out further.

Mainly when the car is cold. Once heated they go away. Can't wait till it is below zero.

+1 on the cool weather and in addition, mine did not start until I increased my tire pressure to 37/36 for increased MPG. I fully expected it to happen since your tires do a lot of work towards shock absorption.

I've heard two different rattling sounds, one from the drivers side dashboard and one what seems to around the glove box. I told Toyota and my dealer. The dealer has been nice but says, understandably, they need to hear the sounds. I'm about to take it in for it's second oil change and will pray the sound occurs when I take the service guy for a ride.

I have also noticed more noises when the car is cold and then it gets much quieter when it warms up. Definitely the main noise seems to be coming from the passenger side door.

Same here, passenger rear door in particular. I hear a creaking sound as I turn up my driveway. Checked everything seatbacks, tray tables locked in upright position. Could just be some paranormal activity.

Seriously, my first car, a VW beetle, probably had less rattle noises than my Prius, or maybe the engine and wind noise was so loud on it that I wouldn’t notice. Anyway, if you have not noticed rattle noises in your 2010 yet, that’s because you drive in very good roads. The rattling is absolutely outrageous and it keeps getting worse, maybe because of colder temperatures as some has pointed out. I brought this up during my 5K service and the technician interrupted me to say that they have got lots of complaints about it and there is not much they can do to help.

The thing between the front seats rattles, mostly from it's lid. I have been working on it trying to stick pieces of felt in various places, some success. Rattle in passengers side of dashboard no idea where it is or how to fix it. Rattle on passengers side near seat but I haven't found anything loose yet, still looking.

Dealers are no help with these kinds of problems at all. They usually have someone drive it around the block on nice smooth streets at 20 MPH and tell you they "tested" it and didn't find anything wrong.

I have a 17 year old Chevy pickup that has fewer rattles than my new Prius. Very poor quality control by Toyota, and in a car built in Japan no less.

Why would you want to limit this poll to JUST Prius III?

My source of rattle comes from within the center arm rest - it's the iPod tray.

No rattles on mine, thankfully, at 5k miles and I drive on the very poor SE Michigan roads.

Not sure how to answer. I had one major rattle, from the center console/storage area, that I fixed by putting soft material where the little interior tray lands. So now I don't have a rattle.

I do have some minor creaking from the rear hatch area but not bothersome.

So do I answer yes because I had a rattle or no because I don't have one now?

Mine creaks and rattles a lot and makes me hate my car. Very disappointing for me. When I was buying a Toyota(my first) I thought I was buying a superior fit and finish car. This car rattles so much it just seems like its a cheap plastic car. Reminds me of my friends Hyundai in the early 90s. My wife's civic is vastly superior in this regard...if it weren't for the rattles, I'd be pretty happy with this car, but all I wanted out of life was a quiet, efficient car (drove an old truck that rattled like crazy)...guess I should have gotten an Altima or something....maybe 20 years from now when I buy my next car they'll have this worked out...

I agree... I really like my Prius but the rattling is insane. I'm very sensitive to cabin noises. I really liked my previous CR-V but will never get another one until they fix the wind/road noise issues. Road/wind noise in the Prius is noticeable but tolerable, but the rattle noises are driving me insane. It keeps getting worst and worst and the dealer tells me there is nothing they can do about it... Unfortunately, I did not detect any rattle noises during my 3 test drives and when the issue came out here in the chat it was too late. As much as I like my Prius, I'm not sure I would have bought it after knowing about the rattles. Frustrating.

We're lucky in that ours is completely silent except for a little wind noise at highway speeds. Sorry to hear about the rattles that some are experiencing.

Thank you all, very interesting info.

I see the problem is much worse than I expected. I am adding it to the list of problems.

I have 2 rattles one where the passenger seat rubs against the center console, this one isn't bad as I can push on the seat foam and it will go away for 10 minutes. The other one is nasty, seems to come from the passenger side engine/front dash when the engine runs at a certain RPM somewhat intermittent but getting worse. Coming from a Hyundai I was expecting much better, the prius is most rattly car I think I've ever owned....
