There is a totally separate post regarding this topic. But it is an option that the Dealer can turn off to a single Beep but it has to be handled at your dealership. I would suggest calling them and making an appt, and don't let them charge you, if you just took delivery of the car. They should be able to do this for you in a very short time period, from arrival to the dealer..... Good Luck.
As Bob has mentioned, this change must be made by the dealership. Use the search function and you can find posts talking about other changes the dealer can make while you are there.
Go to the following : wikihow . com /Disable-Reverse-Beep-in-a-Toyota-Prius (this should be all one line since I was not allowed to post a URL!) I have not tried this on my 2010 yet since I expect to have a number of customizations done by the dealer at NO CHARGE
It cannot be done on a Gen III Prius w/o taking the vehicle to the dealer to have their equipment plugged into the car to perform the changes.
I was told by my dealer, in no uncertain terms, that they cannot turn it off or change it to 1 beep. That sounded wrong based one everything I heard here. Can those who had this done please let me know what dealership did it so I can have my guys call them? thanks dk2463
Section 6.2 of your manual shows a list of customizations that can be done by your dealer. I think it's on page 587.
Heintz Toyota in Mankato, MN. I handed them a copy of the pages in the manual addressing customizations and asked for the reverse beep to be changed to a single beep. Same for the seat belt beep for the passenger seat. Only took them a couple minutes. I had that done, the car washed, my paperwork signed, and the saleperson tour of the car and was out of there in 45 minutes. No charge. No issues. I only wish they were local (I live in the Twin Cities but bought the car from them because they were one of the few dealers that had one on the lot during C4C).
i see your in sf...try marin toyota. they initially told me they couldn't turn it to one either (they kept saying they can't turn it off because of liability issues). i had to repeatedly tell them i didn't want it turned off, just changed to one. they still said they couldn't do it until i told them i had read that they could on a couple sites and so they did it. hopefully they've gotten the hang of it and will do it for you!
