2010 Prices Paid and Details

From all indications, now that the cash for clunkers is gone, inventories of Prius should rise and it should be easier to get below MSRP. Not being desperate or anxious to get one would help - I would think by November into winter cars will start accumulating on lots.

 

GST is a different beast. I could easily get a discount in Chicago to purchase a Prius. Just by using the email method I got quotes on a Prius V with navigation for $1000 under MSRP. I tried the email method with Houston dealers and they all came back with MSRP only. I couldn't even get $100 off. The problem was there were only 22 Prius available in Houston according to cars.com. I went to several dealers and told thme another dealer offered $150 off and they said you better buy it from them.

 

There is no reason why anyone should be paying close to MSRP. If everyone holds off buying for a month, the lots will start accumulating with them and then they as well as Toyota will start coming out with incentives to get rid of them from their inventory. I started shopping for a Prius almost a month ago but cannot decide. The first dealer I went to would only give me $400 below MSRP and he says the vehicle will be sold within a few days if I don't take it now. One two weeks later, I went back and the same vehicle is still there and spoke to another salesman. This one now offered me $800 below MSRP and some other goodies. I have visited other dealers in my area and all of them still have the same prius on their lots after almost a month. Finance rate has also dropped from TC since I first started to shop. I am in no hurry now as I know, if I wait, there will be better deals to be had. Just last week on Friday, I learned that I can now get between $3-4K off a 2010 TCH. Now I am stuck between which to get which I will start a new thread. The more anxious you are to buy, the car salesman will sense that and will give you less discount. Don't forget, car sales just had the worst sales month of year back in September.

 

I needed a car as well but not in a total rush although it was really inconvenient sharing one car between two of us. I thought prices would eventually go down and was going to hold off, but with the $400 price increase on the Prius as of yesterday, I decided that I would try to get one either before the increase or hold out for a few more months and see if I could get a better deal. The silver Prius seems to be easy to get, but the color I want, not so much. I found a car 3 days ago and pulled trigger since I wouldn't be effected by the price increase. And I got it for 1K under MSRP which isn't bad being it was only a package II. I wish I could have gotten better financing and perhaps that is something that will happen in the coming months if I had waited. Only time will tell!

 

FYI bought a PRIUS III Blizzard Pearl + Bisque with the following packages

MSRP 26,900 - negotiated down to 25,300 + TTL in weatherford, tx

 

Prius II, MSRP $23,350 base + mats. Got it for $300 over invoice here in SoCal.

 

Purchased the II from Allstar in Alexandria, La. Sticker was $24,636. It included DLR prep and paint sealant pkg. Port added Mats and Window tint. I wrote them a check for $20550 and gave them the title to a 98 corolla that needed paint and a wind shield. T&L was $1884 additional. Not a great deal, but not a bad one either. Closed on 12-31-09 so I get the tax deduction. Thanks for all the good advice.
May I suggest, don't mention "Truecar.com", It's like swearing in church!

 

Prius V with Advance Technology, Applique, mats, and wheel locks for $31,612 +TTL with a $700 trade in for ancient Volvo it was $32,082 out the door from Koons Toyota at Tysons corner. Used USAA car buying service and got it for invoice or $2,324 off sticker.

With the way USAA is now open to anyone that was honorably discharged (and then they can pass it down to children), it is a great deal. Truly a painless way to purchase a car.

 

2010 Prius III Barcelona red:

MSRP: $24,566 (with "Preferred Premium Accessory Package": mats, wheel locks, cargo net, FirstAid kit -- nothing special, really)

No trade-in

Got it for $22,300 (plus ME sales tax + $34 title, this dealership does NOT charge any bogus "doc fees"). Paid cash - no financing.


Shopped around, contacted all area Toyota dealerships within 120 miles, visited 4 of them, negotiated at 3 of them, until I saw that I got an absolutely the lowest price. Plus, of course, Toyota gave 2 years of free maintenance, since I have 2 Camrys in my household.

 

Leased Prius II with just floor and cargo area mats and bumper graphic.

3 years, 36K miles

$1596 at delivery which included first payment. 35 more payments of $199.00 even. No other fees.

Interested in a II...is it typical for TT&L/fees to add as much as almost $1700 to the price? For a base MSRP of 23,605 (MSRP with options including tint and pinstripe brought it to 24,229), I was offered a price of $22,985 plus TT&L and "fees", bringing it to quite a high 24,666. Is it typical for the drive-out price to be above MSRP after all the haggling is said and done?

Your state probably has an online dmv calc. You shouldn't pay much more than that for DMV fees. However, if you buy and don't lease, sales tax is added to the haggled price. In cali, you'd be looking at about 2k on top of your 22,985.

I see that others here beat my price but for the Pittsburgh market, and the fact that I got it $1600 under sticker...I feel that I got a great deal. Plus, my dealer offers free car washes (with a service appointment), and free vehicle pick-up for service at my home or free loaner cars if I come in.

When gas prices go back up to $4 or $5 -- which they will for sure -- these prices will be a distant memory. We all bought at a great time.

MSRP (edmunds) = $31,630 (sans mats, applique, service)
Invoice (edmunds) = $29,076 (sans mats, applique, service)

So, bottom line, a bit under invoice depending on how you value the "extras". Consumers says there is a $550 dealer holdback and there are probably other dealer concessions, so the dealer is still making a profit. It is just a more "standard" profit for a car rather than the large profits they were making when the prius was in short supply.

It was a very nice buying experience with all negotiations by email. Once there I just had to check over and sign the paperwork, inspect the car and drive away.

I also had a nice buying experience since I chose to do it via email. My salesman was fairly knowledgeable and worked harder on the deal than other dealerships in my area. I LOVE my new Prius!

 

Privus IV with solar sunroof pkg, nav, etc. Paid $29,470 - seemed like a good deal. Of course, I spent another 1K on new aftermarket 17" wheels/tires - hate the 15" ones.
