Drove my car for work today and yesterday for a total of 143 miles- so at my current 55MPG that's less than three gallons of gas. Last I checked gas was less than $3/gallon. So that means I consumed less than $9 of gas. I was reimbursed $82 for my mileage...and I got to drive my Prius instead of the company truck!!!
That is awesome and I plan on doing the same thing! I drive alot for my job and had a 4x4 Tundra....12mpg avg.... The Prius can get some MPG for sure and is a real money maker for the person who is reinbursed for work travel. We have only had this car a little over a week and I am very impressed so far.
Congrats!! Just understand that the rate is not only for gas but also for car maintenance. But you did make out QUITE well.
I know! I've had the same fortune, it's a money maker for sure!! ( I use that to deduct from the monthly payment to FURTHER justify my car)
... and depreciation, and insurance, each of which likely exceeds fuel and maintenance. I'd guess your 'profit' is significantly less than half the reimbursement. But it certainly helps having someone else paying off a chunk of your transportation costs, especially the sunk costs.
Oh yeah, I know that the govt mandated mileage reimubursement costs are NOT just for gasoline and cover all of the above...but still, it FEELS like all profit because I would have had to pay all those hidden costs anyway. The way I see it, if I have to use my car for visiting a jobsite like that once every few months, I'll never have to pay for gasoline myself!!! A car that gets 55 MPG (my current MPG) is wonderful- a car that gets all of its gas for FREE for that mileage is spectacular!
We are currently racking up 206 miles a week of reimbursable 'medical mileage' - at fifty cents a mile - so, yes, it's nice when the car gives back a bit, hmm?
What a bunch of scammers! As a Loyal Employee, I REFUSE to charge My Company the same as they pay the rest of the employees who drive SUVs. I use an algorithm to adjust for the high mileage of my car so I don't screw My Company. ound::rofl::lol: Right - just because I'm a Management Scientist it doesn't mean I'm CRAZY! I, too, really like making a "profit" on business mileage!
Never thought of it this way. Now I recall being reembursed for $1600 between my coworker and I for a 2400km trip which I spent $200 on gas.
My wife got $300 last month for her gas reimbursement. I don't know what she spent on gas but it's less than half of what we were spending on her van. The issue with us is I have a company car and we don't drive in on weekends much anymore since the Prius arrived. Gotta start driving my car again since I don't pay for gas!
